The Clerk read the following letter, also from the Safety Council: November 14,1946 Des Plaines City Council Mr.- Otto Henrich, City Clerk Des Plaines, Illinois Gentlemen: The Des Plaines Safety Council has no source of income and they need funds to carry on their work,$ihowever, last year received money from the Community Chest Fund. Our President, Mr. Gallup, requested that a letter be written to the City Council to see whether or not the Safety Council could not be included for 1.250.00 in your budget for the next fiscal year. Trust that you will look favorable on our request and hope same will be granted. An early reply will be appreciated. DESIGNATE MAYOR PRO TEM: The motion was then made by Alderman Vavrinek and seconded by Napieralski that Alderman Kehe serve as Mayor Pro -Tem. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chair declared the motion carried. Al- derman Kehe thereupon took the Chair. ZONING VARIATION, 916 GREENVIEW AVENUE: The Clerk read the following: November 22, 1946 City of Des Plaines, Illinois Gentlemen: Due to restrictions placed into effect since the building of my home, I now find it impossible to obtain a building permit f/or the erection of a new garage on my property, and therefore it is necessary for me to request a variance in the Zoning Laws governing this property, in order to secure such a permit. Will you please arrange to have this matter placed before the Zoning Board of Appeals as quickly as possible, so that a hearing on the matter can be held'be- fore bad weather makes it impossible to carry out the building of this needed garage. Scharringhausen reported receiving letters on zoning violations and he desired information of the procedure of checking from the City Attorney. The Attorney advised the Inspector to accompany a member of the Fire Prevention Commission on inspection. APPROVE WATER MAIN PLANS AT NEW WELL: Alderman Halverson informed the Council that the plana for water mains from the new well to the Softening Plant were completed and it would be necessary to advertise for bids. The motion was made by Alderman Halverson and seconded by Johnson to approve the plans and specifications. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chair declared the motion carried. , The motion was then made by Alderman Halverson and seconded by Johnson that the City Clerk advertise for bids for the water mains from the new well to the Softening Plant and the bids to be opened December 16th, 1946, at 8:00 P. SwEEPER Alderman Vavrinek reported that the new street had been tried out and found that it will be necessary to sweep the streets twd�or three times in order to remove the dirt. r4. _ ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN RAILWAY CROSSINGS: • The motion was made by Alderman Vavrinek and seconded by Johnson that the City C. Clerk advertise for bids for changing curbing and rebuilding the Chicago and North- = western railway crossings at Graceland Avenue, Lee and Pearson Streets, according "4 to plans and specifications. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chair declared the motion carried. Alderman Kehe, Chairman of the Finance Committee, reportdon the pro- posed issue of $55,000.00 Water Revenue Bonds. He said that the first National Bank had tentatively approved the purchase of the bonds awaiting the opinion on the bonds.
