It is my sad duty to announce the sudden death of Sam Campagna, Senior
Alderman of the Fifth erd and Dean of the City Council, Chairman of the Streets
and Sanitation Committee, which occurred yesterday afternoon following a heart
attack.
I find it difficult to transmit into words the mixed emotions I'feel
when attempting to eulogize our late fellow-workeir. Mr. Campagna began his work
on this Council in 1935, and to you gentlemen there is nothing I could say that
would adequately describe his unselfish devotion to his official duties, the

faithful performance of which you have all witnessed since your respective elec—
tion to office.
The City of Des Plaines has lost one of its noblest citizens, measured
by any standard it might choose to judge him by, this City Council has sustained
an irreparable loss and his family has lost a husband and father whose devotion
they alone know the measure of. To them we extend our deepest sympathy.
