PETITION FOR EXTENSION OF SOUTH SIDE MOTOR BUS SERVICE: The Clerk
then read the following petition which had about four hundred signatures:
WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE RIVERVIEW CIVIC ASSOCIATION AND
THE RESIDENTS OF THE RIVERVIEW SECTION OF THE CITY OF
DES PLAINES DO HEREBY PETITION HON. CHARLES GARLAND,
MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DES PLAIN -,S, TO TAKE IMMEDIATE -
ACTION WITH THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. TO SECURE THE
EXTENSION OF THE PRESENT TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES
KNOWN AS THE SOUTII SIDE CITY OF DES PLAINES MOTOR
BUS SERVICE, TO PROCEED SOUTH OF OAKTON STREET TO
ACCOMMODATE THE RESIDENTS OF THE 'ABOVE COMMUNITY.
The motion was then made by jilderman Halverson and seconded by Campagna to
refer the petition to the Lsommittee on Public Relw ions for study and report.
The notion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chair declared the
motion carried and so feferred.
ICE[ SKATING: Alderman Napieralski suggested that the Fire Department
be -asked to put water on the ice of the river to create better skating. He
believe less water would be needed than any other flooding. Alderman Lemke
suggested to contact Superintendent R. Fischer whenever water was canted for
flooding for skating.
AIM: Each member of the Council having been supplied
a copy of the regular Council meeting held December 4, 1944,.the motion wss
made by 1lderman Johnson and seconded by Lemke that the said minutes be ap-
proved. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor de-
clared the motion carried and the said minutes approved.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by 'Ilderman Lemke and seconded
by Vavrinek to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
the Mayor pro tem dedlared the motion carried and the meeting regularly adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE OITY OF DES PLAINES
HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, MONDAY,
JANUARY 2t 1945, AT 8:00 P. M.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor pro tem G. W.
Pflughaupt, presiding with Aldermen Johnson, Napieralski, Pflughaupt, Vavrinek,
Kehe, Scharringhausen, Lemke, McKay, and Campagna responding to roll call. Al-
derman Halverson was absent during the roll call but arrived later during the meeting.
OFFICERS' REPORTS: The Clerk then read the reports for December of the

COMMITTEE REPORTS: The Committee on Municipal Development through its
Chairman, Alderman Kehe, reporting on redistricting the wards, submitted the following:

We do not believe this has anything to do with Municipal
Development. Therefore, we recommend that the Mayor
pro tem appoint a special committee to take up this matter.
The motion was then made by Alderman Kehe and seconded by Napieralski to concur
in the Committee report. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
the Chair declared the motion carried and the said report concurred in. The
Mayor pro tem then appointed the senior aldermen, Johnson, 1st ward, Kehe, 3rd
ward, Lemke, 4th ward, Campagna, 5th ward, and the junior alderman, Vavrinek,
2nd ward, as the special committee to consider the redistricting. Alderman Kehe
was appointed Chairman.

FOREST PRESERVE COMMISSIONERS: The Clerk then read the following letter:

My Dear Mr. Henrich:
This will acknowledge receipt of your communication of recent date, to
which you attached copy of a Resolution passed by the City Council of the City
of Des Plaines, Coop County, Illinois, stating that the City of Des Plaines finds
it necessary to procure a new dumping ground for the disposal of ashes, tin cans
and dry rubbish, and requesting permission of the Board of Forest Preserve Com:-
missioners for the use_of the site located on Route #62, and known as "borro"
pit, Forest Preserves, to be used for the dumping ground needed.
Please be advised that this matte r will be referred to the Board of
Forest Preserve(bmmissioners at its next meeting for due consideration.

C'a SNOW OBSTRUCTION: Alderman Napieralski reported some snow piled up
C,/ at the Pearson Street Railroad crossing, which he asked to have removed. The
C Clerk was instructed to notify Chief Becker to contact the station agent and
=, ask to have the snow removed.

STORM SEWER AT WOLF-ALGONQUIN ROADS: The Clerk then read the fol-
lowing letter and report on same by Engineer Fletcher.

Dear Sir: ***************-* *****-
I hereby submit for your approval, one set of plans for thepro-
posed Wolf -Algonquin Storm Sewer.
At the present time, the original outlet which connects into the Vil-
lage sewer is inadequate causing the flooding of the intersection. The pro-
posed .storm sewer will run east on Algonquin Road to East Grant Drive.
With the approval of the plans, it is necessary for the Village to adopt
a resolution similar to the enclosed form. The resolution, as adopted, and with
the village Seal attached, is to be returned to this department.

Sewer, prepared by Cook County Department of Highways were submitted to your
Engineer by Mayor Garland for study and recommendation.
Due to the fact that our sewers are now overloaded during rain storms
your City Engineer recommends that the plans and resolution be returned to the
Cook County Highway Department unapproved.

FRANK OPERA: The motion was then made by "lderman Campagna and sec-
onded by Halverson that the Olerk be instructed to send a letter of condolence
to Frank Opeka, City Attorney, regarding the death of his father. The motion
was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chair declared the motion carried and
the Clerk so instructed.
1945 APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE: The Clerk then read for first reading
a proposed ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE
Making Appropriations to (defray the expenses of the City
of Des Plaines for Municipal purposes, designated the "An-
- nual Appropriation Bill2 for the fiscal year commencing
January 1, 1945 and ending December 31, 1945.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Each member of the Council having been supplied
a copy of the minutes of the regular council meeting held December 18, 1944,
the motion was made by Alderman Johnson and seconded by Lemke that the said
minutes be approved. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the
Chair declared the motion carried and the said minutes approved.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was then made by Alderman Lemke and seconded
by Vavrinek to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the
Chair declared the motion carried and the meeting regularly adjourned.
