Friedrich, City Clerk, City of Des Plaines, Des Plaines, Illinois. Dear Sir: DES PLAINES, ILL. - CROSSING PROTECTION DES PLAINES AVENUE. Referring further to my letter of June 16th, and your letter of April 13th, relative to making the gates at your Des Plaines Avenue crossing automatic: We wish to advise that we have War Production Board's approval for use of materials and have made application to the Illinois Commerce Commission for the approval of the change. This application was made approximately a month ago. Materials have been ordered but it may be some- time before all items will received on account of the present conditions. It may speed up matters if the City would indicate to the Commis- sion that they are anxious to have this automatic protection installed to increase safety at this crossing. REHABILITATION FOR SERVICEMEN: Alderman Napieralski then sug- gested that a commission consistion of 5 members be appointed by the Mayor to help the servicemen find themselves again --to find employment for them. This commission could carry a name such as "Post -War Servicemen's Rehabilation Commission" Alderman Napieralski urged that now was the time to appoint thes men. The motion was made by Alderman Napieralski and seconded by Pflughaupt that such a committee (a Co-ordination)be appointed. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the.Mayor declared the motion carried and the City Attorney be instructed to draw up an ordinance for the next Council meeting.
