AUTHORIZE REPAIR "OF CERTAIN STREETS: The Clerk then read the fol- lowing letter: July 5, 1944 Mr. Sam Chmpagna, Chairman Streets & Sanitation Des Plaines, Illinois Dear Sir, It has always been the contention of the City Engineer that the proper way to maintain our City Streets is to take as many streets as possible each year and give them a through repair job. In so doing we rill eliminate these streets from much of our annual patching and maintenance work and will, in the long run, save the City money and give us much better street surfaces. In view of the fact that the City does not have the proper equipment to do this work I suggest that it be done by contract. We have ander contract at tha present time, repairing of certain Arterial Streets end I am certain that any other streets which we may designate could be dcne at the same unit cost for material and labor if we could have them ready forthe contractor while he has his equipment and labor here in Des Plaines. I recommend that the following streets be considered under tris plan, and submit the estimated cost thereof: Washington Street from Wolf Road East 1,496 Alles Avenue 1,496 Prospect Ave. (White St. to Maple) 3,324 sq. yds. at $0.40 $ 598.40 n n " •333 919.71 n n " .33 1096.92 The above costs are based upon the same type of work as that specified for the Arterial Streets now under contract and -estimated upon the same unit prices bid. Respectfully submitted -for your consideration. (signed) E. N. Fletcher Engineer for Des Plaines The motion was made by Alderman Johnocn and s;conded by Campagna that he recommendations contained in the said letter be accepted and that the streets referred to therein be repaired as recommended.
