Fletcher back home from his Government assignment in Paraguay, South America, after which Mr. Fletcher briefly related some of his ex- periences in South America. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Each member of the Council having been supplied a copy of the minutes of the regular Council meeting held June 5, 1944, as well -as a copy of the minutes of the Adjourned Regular Council meeting held June 12, 1944. The motion was made by Alderman Kehe and seconded by Vavrinek that the sailminutes be approved. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried and the said minutes approved. ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Lemke and seconded by Johnson to adjourn. Friedrich, City Clerk, with Alder- men Napieralski, Kehe, and Scharringhausen responding to the roll -call. The Clerk reported "no quorum". ICH, City Cler CALL TO ORDER: In the absence of Mayor Garland, the meeting was called to order by Edgar J. Friedrich, City Clerk, with Aldermen Johnson, Napieralski, Pflughaupt, Vavrinek, Kehe, Lemke, McKay, Campagna, and Hal- verson responding to the roll -call. (Alderman Scharringhausen was absetn during the entire meeting.) The Clerk reported nine (9) aldermen present. SELECT MAYOR PRO TEM: The Clerk then orally conveyed to the Coun- cil the request of Mayor Charles H. Garland asking to be excused from the Council meeting in order to permit him to spend more time with his son, Lieutenant Robert Garland, who is at home on a very brief furlough. The motion was made by Alderman Lemke and seconded by Johnson that Alderman Pflughaupt serve as Mayor pro tem for this meeting. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the chair declared the motion carried. Alderman Pflughaupt thereupon took the chair. REPORTS OF OFFICERS: The Clerk then read the reports for June, 1944, of the following: Frank F. Scharringhausen, Building. Inspector Arthur Rieck, Electrical Inspector. The Chair ordered the said reports placed on file.
