Re: Boeckenhauer vs. City, Thacker Street case
Gentlemen:
Mr. Servos, representing Mr. John H. Boeckenhauer has to-
day called relative to submitting an offer ofsetteAment
of all pending litigation together with apy and all other
claims.
The proposal submitted is that Mr. Boeckenhauer will give
the City a deed for the 401 strip, 331 of which represents
the S. half of Thacker Stkeet., in exchange for receipted
bill for all special assessments levied against his property.
It is further suggested by Mr. Servos, that the City might
perhaps be able to purchase bonds at a samll figure thereby
minimizing the cost of such settlement.
Your advices in this matter will be appreciated.

ELIMINATION OF 5:20 P. M. CUMBERLAND BUS EXPLAINED: The clerk then

Mayor and City Council,
Des Plaines, Illinois.
Gentlemen:
Pursuant to your direction at the last meet-
ing of the City Council, I communicated with the United
Motor Coach Co., with reference to the discontinuance
of the 5:20 P. M. bus to Cumberland and Cumberland Ter-
race.
The response received from the United Motor
Coach Co., is hereto attached and is self explanatory.
Respectfully submitted,
ALSO THE following letter attached thereto:
Mr. Frank M. Opeka
City Attorney
10 South LaSalle Street
Chicago, Illinois
y AMttornOPey.EKA
June 26, 1943
Dear Mr. Opeka:
The 5:20 PM trip to Cumberland was discontinued for the pre-
sent time because in our opinion it was an unnecessary duplic-
tion of mileage.
We have a bus leaving Des Plaines for Barrington and Elgin at
5:40 PM which people can take going to Cumberland Terrace and
Cumberland.
For your information, the 5:20 PM on June 1 carried 10 passen-
gers, June 2 carried 4 passengers, June 3, 10 passengers, June
4, 4 passengers. Of these 28 passengers, eight were transfers.
Giving full credit to this line of full five cent cash fares,
from these four trips the cash revenue was 28 passengers times
5¢ or 11.40, making.no allowance for that part of the transfer
rede which should rightly be credited to the line from which
the passenger transfered.
The cost on these four trips was approximately $5. Competing
cash revenue and expense on this trip, it would appear to us
that another bus twenty minutes later going to approximately
the same place should answer the purpose.
Committee Report - Cont'd
(Letter Cont'd)
The Office of Defense Transportation does not consider a trip
like this necessary and it is up to us to conserve both gasoline
and rubber in every possible way.
Thank you for calling this matter to our attention.
