The Clerk then read the following proposed resolution: RESOLUTION WHEREASour beloved country with:'its allies is at war With Germany and the Imperil Government of Japan, and WHEREAS it appears that in order to successfully prosecute the said war, an ever increasing number of young men and young women from Des Plaines will be called to the colors, and WHEREAS, itis the desire'of this Council that all persons leaving Des Plaines to join the armed forces of our country be accorded some:form of,publio"recognition before entraining for their respective posts, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Des Plaines that all such as are called to the colors from time to time be publiciy'honored;.before entrain' ing, by'means'of'public receptions, dinners, or similar patriotic demonstrations, and BE IT -FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the,City of Des Plaines be and he is hereby authorized and directed to appoint a citizend committee of approximately twenty-five (25) persons to carry out the provisions of this resolution, for the duration of the said war. seconded by The motion was made by Alderman Dopheide andAKehe to adopt this proposed resolution. Mrs. Raymond reported that a reception will be held at the Municipal Building in honor of the said contingent at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, May 13, 1942. She further reported that arrangements are being made to see the contingen off early Friday morning,and requested all members of the City Council to meet at the Municipal Building at 5430 A.M. Friday, May 15, 1942 for this purpose. ACCEPT INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES: The Clerk then read the following,letter: May 8, 1942 To the Honorable City Council Des Plaines, Illinois Gentlemen: Des Plaines Post No. 36 of the American Legion will observe Memorial Day, May 30 with a parade and fitting exercises at Memorial Park. ARRANGE PAY -ROLL DEDUCTION PLAN FOR PURCHASING DEFENSE BONDS: The Finance Committee through its chairman, Alderman Pflughaupt then read the .following petition: We, the undersigned officials and employees of the City of Des Maines, do hereby express our willingness and desire to help our country financially during the present war. Therefore, we petition your honorable body to pass a re- solution sanctioning a voluntary payroll deduction plan for the purchase of war bonds.
