The motion was made by Alderman Pflughaupt and Kehe to strike therefrom Warrant
#11563, payable to the Public Service Co. of Northern Illinois in the sum of
$81.85 and to adopt the said proposed resolution with the said item stricken.
The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following re-
sult: Ayes; Alderman Carroll, Johnson, Loos, Pflughaupt, Dopheide, Kehe, Lemke,
Schwanbeck and Campagna. Nays; None. The Mayor thereupon declared the motion
carried and the said resolution so adopted.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Each member of the Council having been supplied
with a copy of the minutes of the regular CouncilsgirMagjold on Monday, April
20, 1942, the motion was made by Alderman Dopheide andAPflUghaupt to approve the
said minutes as submitted. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
the Mayor declared the motion carried and the said minutes approved.

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Charles
H. Garland presiding with Aldermen Carroll, Johnson, Pflughaupt, Dopheide,
Kehe, Friott and Campagna responding to the roll call. Aldermen Loos, Lemke,
and Schwanbeck were absent. The Clerk reported seven (7) members of the
Council present.
READING THE CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING: The Clerk then read the
following call for special meeting and Waiver of Notice:

To the Members of the City Council
of the City of Des Plaines, Illinois
Gentlemen t
You are hereby notified that upon order of Mayor Charles H.Garland,
there will be a special meeting of the City Council of the
City of Des Plaines at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, 1942, in the
Council Chambers for the purpose of arranging appropriate farewell
ceremonies for boys leaving for the armed forces of our Country.
Please be on hand promptly at 7:30 P.M. in order that the
business at hand may be dispensed with dispatch.

to such as leave Des Plaines for the armed Services.
The Clerk then read the following proposed resolution:
RESOLUTION
WHEREASour beloved country with:'its allies is at war With Germany and the Imperil
Government of Japan, and
WHEREAS it appears that in order to successfully prosecute the said war, an ever
increasing number of young men and young women from Des Plaines will be called to
the colors, and
WHEREAS, itis the desire'of this Council that all persons leaving Des Plaines to
join the armed forces of our country be accorded some:form of,publio"recognition
before entraining for their respective posts,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Des Plaines that all
such as are called to the colors from time to time be publiciy'honored;.before entrain'
ing, by'means'of'public receptions, dinners, or similar patriotic demonstrations,
and
BE IT -FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the,City of Des Plaines be and he is
hereby authorized and directed to appoint a citizend committee of approximately
twenty-five (25) persons to carry out the provisions of this resolution, for
the duration of the said war.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR HONORING CONTINGENT LEAVING MAY 15. 1942: Mayor
Garland then stated that the arrangements for honoring the contingent scheduled
to entrain Friday, May 15, 1942 had been assigned to Mrs. Ella Raymond, Re-
creational Director. Mrs. Raymond reported that a reception will be held at
the Municipal Building in honor of the said contingent at 7:30 P.M. on
Wednesday, May 13, 1942. She further reported that arrangements are being made
to see the contingen off early Friday morning,and requested all members of
the City Council to meet at the Municipal Building at 5430 A.M. Friday, May 15,
1942 for this purpose.
ACCEPT INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES: The
Clerk then read the following,letter:

To the Honorable City Council
Des Plaines, Illinois
Gentlemen:
Des Plaines Post No. 36 of the American Legion will observe
Memorial Day, May 30 with a parade and fitting exercises at
Memorial Park.
We invite the City Council as in the past to participate with

AT 8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting.was called to order by Mayor Charles
H. Garland with Aldermen Johnson, Pflughaupt, Kehe, Friott, Lemke, Schwanbeck
and Campagna responding to the roll call. (Aldermen Carroll, Loos and
Dopheide were absent during the entire meeting) The Clerk reported seven (7)
Aldermen present.
ARRANGE PAY -ROLL DEDUCTION PLAN FOR PURCHASING DEFENSE BONDS: The
Finance Committee through its chairman, Alderman Pflughaupt then read the
.following petition:
We, the undersigned officials and employees of the City
of Des Maines, do hereby express our willingness and
desire to help our country financially during the present
war.
Therefore, we petition your honorable body to pass a re-
solution sanctioning a voluntary payroll deduction plan
for the purchase of war bonds. The purchase of said bonds
by this method to be in effect for the duration of this
war.
