August 3, 1940
Hon. Mayor and City Council
City of Des Plaines, Illinois
Gentlemen:
I wish to call to your attention a subject which has had much
discussion in the past both by the council and committees also represen-
tatives of business men's association; the subject being SIGNS.
Apparently on rewriting and passing of an ordinance regulating
fees for the inspection of signs and billboards the matter was settled.
Juding from the way the business men comply with this ordinance, the
matter is not settled, and needs further airing as they do not remit their
fee for inspection as per bills presented.
However, a shall percentage have complied with the revised City
Ordinance, the majority have not.
Therefore, I am appealing to the City Council before starting
suits for violations as set forth in Section #3 of the revised sign
ordinance, which is as follows -
to follow.
"Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction
thereof, be fined not more than $200.00. A separate and
distinct offense shall be held to have been committed
each day any firm, person or corporation violates any
of the provisions of this ordinance. "
Kindly give this your attention and advise what method for me
Respectfully,
Signed: F.F. SCHARRINGHAUSEN,
Bldg. Insp.
The motion was made by Alderman Lemke and seconded by Alderman Friott to
instruct the Clerk to write the Des Plaines Business Men's Association
calling attention to the fact that the rates provided for sign inspection
fees were agreed to by the business men and the Des Plaines Business Men's
Association and that therefore the City expects prompt payment of the said
fees. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor de-
clared the motion carried.
