Ahbe there will be a special Council meeting at 8:00 P.M., Monday, April 10th, 1939 in the Council Chambers for the purpose of passing the 1939 Tax Levy Ordinance as well as to take care of such other business as may require attention. Pershing PASS 1939 TAX LEVY ORDINANCE: The Clerk then read for second reading the 1939 Tax Levy Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING OF AN ASSESSMENT OF TAXES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES, COOK COUNTY, ILL- INOIS COMMENCING JANUARY L, 1939 AND ENDING DECEMBER 31st, 1939. 117 The motion was made by Alderman Pflughaupt and secon- ded by Alderman Carroll to finally pass and adopt this proposed ordinance. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen Carroll, Pflug- haupt, Henrich, Friott, Lemke, Schwanbeck and Campagna. Nays; None. The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried and the said ordinance passed. Mayor Ahbe then approved the said ordinance by affix- ing his signature, which was attested by Edgar J. Friedrich, City Clerk. The motion was then made by Alderman Lemke and secon- ded by Alderman Pflughaupt to instruct the Clerk to cause the said ordinance to be published in the Des Plaines Suburban Times, if in the opinion of Kenneth G. Meyer, City Attorney, such publication is required by law. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. TAG DAY - AMERICAN LEGION: The Clerk then read the following letter: DES PLAINES POST NO. 36 The American Legion 722 Pearson St. April 8, 1939 Mr. E.J. Friedrich, City Clerk Municipal Building Des Plaines, Illinois Dear Mr. Friedrich: Will you please convey to the Honorable City Council a request for Des Plaines Post and Auxiliary No. 36 to hold their annual Poppy Day on May 23, 1939. This as you know is to use the streets of the City of Des Plaines to tag with the Legion Poppy. Proceeds to be used for dis- abled veterans and needy families in our city. If this permit is granted will you ask the Mayor Ahbe to proclaim May 23rd as Poppy Day. Will you please advise the undersigned if permit is granted. Yours truly, Signed: A.B. AMERICAN LEGION CARNIVAL: The Clerk then read the following letter: DES PLAINES POST NO. 36 The American Legion 722 Person St April 6, 1939 Mr. E.J. Friedrich, City Clerk Municipal Building Des Plaines, Illinois Dear Sir: The Honorable City Council of Des Plaines has issued a permit for the coming Festival in July. This grant has been lis made from .rune 30 through the Fourth of July. It is deSited that the permit read -July 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 if favor- able with the Council. Will you please notify the Legion if this request is or is not granted in order that plans may be formulated ac- cordingly? We would like to hold the Carnival on Ellinwood between Lee and Graceland. We intend to arrange the stands and rides so that traffic will have sufficient clearance for use during the day. Yours sincerely, Signed: C.E. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor de- clared the motion carried and the request granted. INVITE BIDS FOR SALE OF 1939 Tax Anticipation Warrants: The motion was made by Alderman Pflughaupt and seconded by Alderman Lemke to instruct the Clerk to notify the usual bidders that the City's 1939 Tax Anticipation Warrants would be sold at auction at the postponed regular council meeting April 24, 1939 at 8;00 P.M. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. POSTPONE COUNCIL METING: The motion was then made by Aldermaiirniiia5TE171UTeTonded by Alderman Lemke to post- pone the RAgular Council meeting to be held April 17th, 1939 to April 24th, 1939 at 8:00 P.M. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Lemke and seconded by Alderman Carroll to adjourn. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hobart M. Ahbe, presiding. In the absence of Edgar J. Friedrich, City Clerk, Mayor Ahbe appointed Pearl Koelling, City Clerk pro tem. Alderman Carroll and Dopheide responded to the roll call.
