CITY ' JPLOYEES NOT TO HOLD MORE THAN ONE JOB: Mayor
Ahbe then asked the Council's authority to write a letter_ to
all employees of the City informing them that no City employee
Shall in the future be permitted to accept additional employ-
ment in his spare time. The motion was made by Alderman
Garland and seconded by Carroll to grant the Mayor authority
to write such a letter. The motion was voted upon by accla-
mation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
DRINKING PROHIBITED IN MUNICIPAL BUILDING: The
motion was made by Alderman Campagna and seconded 1)y Garland
to instruct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance prohibi-
ting the sale or consumption of beer or other intoxicating
beverages in the Municipal Building. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion
carried.
HAZARD AT DES PLAINES AVE. & C & N W. R.R.TRACKS:
Alderman Dopheide reported that two auto accidents have occurred
on Des Plaines Avenue at the point where it was narrowed down
to accommodate the safety gates proposed for the intersection
of Des Plaines Avenue and the Chicago and northwestern Railway
Tracks. The motion was made by Alderman Dopheide and seconded
by Carroll to refer this matter to the Streets and Sidewalks
Committee with full power to act. The motion was voted upon
by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Dopheide
and seconded by Carroll to adjourn. The motion was votediipon

CAII TO ,ORDER: The meeting was called to order by
Mayor Hobart M.Ahbe with Aldermen Carroll, Johnson, Pflughaupt,
Henrich, Garland, Dopheide, Lemke, Friott, Schwanbeck and
Campagna responding to the roll call.
ACTING CLERK: In the absence of Edgar %.Friedrich,
City Clerk, Alderman O.Walter Pflughaupt was selected to serve
as acting Clerk.

Gentlemen:
Upon order of Mayor Hobart M.Ahbe there will
be a special meeting of the City Council of the City
of Des Plaines at 8:00 P.M. on Monday evening,
August 23rd,1937 in the Council. Chambers at the City
Hall, Des Plaines,Iliinois for the purpose of discussing
the advisability of allowing the P.W.A. authorities to
occupy an office space in the City Hall free of charge;
and to discuss what proportion of building operation
expenses should be charged to the Library and Fire
Department; and to discuss any other business which
might come before the Council.

then addressed the Council regarding the matter of free office
space in the new municipal Building for the area supervisor
of the W.P.A., which was requested at the Council meeting held
August 16,1937. u'tr.P uhl reported that adequate accomodations
could be had at Evanston, if Des Plaines does not see fit to
provide them. The motion was made by Alderman Dopheide and
seconded by Henrich to table this matter. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the
motion to table carried and the matter tabled.
PRO -RATING HEATING FOR LIBRARY AND FIRE DEPT .:Alderman
Campagna, chairman of the Committee on Public works, buildings
and Plats, to whom was referred the problem of recommending
equitable annual pro -rated charges for heating the library as
well as the Fire Department, stated that the said recommendations
would be made at the next regular meeting of the Council.
EXTENSION OF SANITARY DISTRICT INTERCEPTOR :Kenneth
G.Meyer, then reported that an emergency exists in connection
with the passage of the ordinance proposed by the Sanitary
District of Chicago giving the Sanitary District certain rights
in connection with the extension of the Des Plaines River Inter-
ceptor Sewer.
The Clerk then read for second reading the proposed
ordinance described:
AN ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO
THE EXTENSION OF THE DES PLAINES
RIVER INTERCEPTOR SEWER.
The motion was made and seconded that the proposed ordinance
be amended by striking from Section 4, paragraph (h) the words
"Chief Engineer of the Sanitary District of Chicago and the" .
The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor
declared the motion carried and the proposed ordinance so
amended.
The motion was then made and seconded that the said
ordinance be passed as amended.'he Mayor put the question and the
Clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen
Carroll, Tohnson, Pflughaupt, Henrich, Garland, Dopheide, iriott,
Lemke, Schwanbeck and Campagna. Nays; None. The Mayor thereupon
declared the motion carried and the ordinance passed.
LICENSING LODGING HOUSES: The motion was made
by Alderman Campagna and seconded that the matter of licensing
hotels, rooming houses, tourist camps, tourist homes and
other public lodging places be referred to the Police and
License Committee for study and report. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the
motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made and seconded
to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by acclamation where-
upon the Mayor declared the motion carried and the meeting
regularly adjourned.

Mayor Ahbe then announced that this regular meeting
of the Council was automatically postponed from Monday
September 6,1937 because September 6th was Labor Day, a legal

of Library Trustees has requested to meet with the Council
