MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES
PLAINES HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON
THE 9th day of AUGUST,A.D.1937 at 8:00 P.I&.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by
Mayor Hobart X.Ahbe, with Aldermen Carroll, Johnson, Pflughaupt,
3enrich, Garland, Dopheide, Friott, Lemke, Schwanbeck. and Campagna
responding to the roll call. The Clerk reported all members of
the Council present.
Mayor Ahbe then announced that this is an adjourned
regular meeting, adjourned from Monday, August 2,1937.
ENGAGING ONE ADDITIONAL FIREMAN: Alderman G.Chairman
of the Fire Committee again emphasized the immediate need of at least
one additional fireman in order that the fire station may be
manned with at least one man at all times. The motion was made
by Alderman Garland and seconded by that the City
temporarily engage a man at the salary of 4135.00 per month
as fireman, pending passage of such ordinance as may be required
and completion of such other necessary arrangements as must be
made by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the perma-
nent appointment for an additional fireman. The Mayor put the
question and the Clerk called the roll with the following result:
Ayes; Aldermen Carroll, Johnson, Pflughaupt, //enrich, Garland,
Dopheide, Friott, Lemke, _Schwanbeck and Campagna. mays; None.
The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried.
LACK OF "DANGER` LIGHTS: Alderman //enrich again called
the Council`s attention to the fact that the City is permitting
a serious hazard to exist in permitting the storage of large
quantities of building materials on public streets without
insisting upon the placing of the customary red lanterns or
torches to warn passers-by. Alderman nenrich reported such.
conditions to exist at the corner of Lee and Eilinwood Streets
as well as near the corner of rrairie Avenue and rearson Street.
EXCESSIVE WHISTLING BY RAILROADS: Alderman Dopheiue
again reported a great deal of excessive whistling by both the
Soo Line as well as the Belt Line Railroad and asked that every-
thing in the City's power be done to abate this nuisance.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Dopheide
and seconded by Schwanbeck that the Council now adjourn and meet
as a committee -of -the -whole in the Council Committee Room im-
mediately after this meeting. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the M-yor decl a d themotion carried
and the Council regularly adjourne
