You ae instructed to ascertain the following: 1.Will the State permit the installation of sand to lights at these intersections. the State finance and pay for the inst&lation and operation of such stop and go lights, or will they perhaps pay for a portion thereof. 3.If the State refuses to pay for such lights, would the State approve the use of the city's portion of State gas tax for such a purpose. Kendrick Harger, Chief Engr. of State Highway Dept. and his ass -'t. Engr. ter. Pavise the following information was obtained. 1. The State will permit the installation of "Stop and Go" lights at any State Highway intersections which after a survey would be considered hazardous crossings. 2. The State will not partly finance the cost of any part of the project. 3. The State will permit the purchase and installation of this type of equipment and would approve the payment of this type of equipment and would approve the payment of same out of the City's portion of State Gas Tax; The complete cost of four stop and go lights and control housing together with installation cost to be approxi- mately $1,200. to $1,500.00 Further discussion was entered into relative to the install ation of a Traffic Actuated Progressive system of Stop and go lights for Graceland, Lee, Pearson and Des Plaines hiver Road crossings interconnected with the railroads, including the G,E.Controls, the entire cost of the project to be financed out of the pity's portion of Gas Tax. We, the committee, suggest that the Uity Council consider this particular feature of crossing protection at these intersections as we have the assurance from the State that their engineers will make a complete survey also draw up the entire plans and specifications for the project at no cost to the municipality.
