WM. L. O'CONNELL vs City of Des Plaines: Kenneth G.Meyer,
City Attorney, then reported having been saved a summons in the
above case. The mottn was made by Alderman Frederick and seconded
by Pflughaupt to instruct the City Attorney to file an appearance
in the said case, designated as Wm.L.O'Connell vs the City of
Des Plaines, Circuit Court Case #35C 12906. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION:
W.H.Allen, City Engineer, then reported that the
Works Progress Administration of the Federal Government is ready
to receive applications for work projects on the basis that the
Government will pay all labor on such projects, and will
further finance such projects to the extent of paying for materials
up to an amount egal to 25% of the labor cost. Mr. Allen
recommended the following projects:
1.cleaning our Water Mains.
2.Repairing all .Buffalo Boxes
3.Building such storm sewers as are necessary.
4.Repairing sidewalks.
The motion was made by Alderman Lemke and seconded by Fulle to
authorize and instruct W.H.Allen, City Engineer, to proceed to
prepare such estimate and application for the project of cleaning
the water mains as is required by the W.P.A. The Mayor put the
question and the roll was called by the Clerk with the following
result: Ayes; Aldermen Carroll, rflughaupt, Fulle, Bishop, Mac-
Luckie, Frederick, Lemke, Schwanbeck and Campagna. Nays; None.
The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried.
FOREIGN INSURANCE TAX: The motion was made by Alderman
ederick and seconded by Campagna to instruct the City Attorney
to investigate House Bill #662 pertaining to the 27 tax on for-
eign insurance companies, and to report his findings to the
Council. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the
Mayor declared the motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Frederick and
seconded by Carroll, to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried and
the Council regularly adjourned.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor George
W.Kinder, presiding, with Aldermen Ahbe, Carroll, rflughaupt,

THE JUDICIARY AND ASSESSMENT CO1V1MITTEE had no report to offer.
THE STREETS AND SIDEWALKS COMUTTEE had no report to offer.
THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS,BUILDINGS AND PLATS
through its chairman, Alderman MacLuckie, that it seems_ that
if a Building Inspector is appointed, he should have some
remuneration for his services. He stated that the committee
will present its recommendation at a later date.
THE SEWER, DRAINAGE AND SANITATION COi1iViIT I'EE had
no report to offer.
THE WATER COMMITTEE through its chairman, Alderman
Bishop, presented the following report, which was read by
the Clerks

meeting of the City Council held August 8,1935 the

The bulletin from the Illinois Municipal
League regarding the 370 Utility Tax to be assessed
against the Water Dept.

above and it has been found necessary to add the 3A
sales tax to each water bill, pending the outcome of
a court test case on the matter.

but was voided by the City Treasurer.

moved that the sidewalk on Ellinwood Street in front of. the
City Hall be widened to conform in width to sidewalk in the
remainder of the block and that this be done as soon as
possible. There was no "second" to the motion however,
and Mayor Kinder declared the motion lost for want of a
"second". -

meeting. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the

Council's attention to the fact that several bills, for materials
and services received, were disallowed by the Council in its meeting
