NOTICE OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MYETING
To the Mayor and
Aldermen of the City of
Des Plaines,Illinois
Upon call of Mayor George W.Kinder, there will be a
Special Meeting of the' City Council of the City of
Des Plaines, at the City Hall, on Thursday, October
the llth,1g34, at 8:CC P.M.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider action re-
garding several suits filed against the City in
Special Assessment matters, also such other matters
as may need attention.

Kenneth Meyer, City Attorney, then informed the
Council that suits have been filea against the City in
Special Assessments numbers 62654, 75, 77, oc, 1C2,1C3,
IC4, 115,116,133 and 135. He reported that in order to
make a proper defense in the case or cases he must have
a statement of moneys received for both principle and
interest in each installment of each of the above-named
special assessments. He stated that he has asked ir.
Larson, City Collector -Treasurer to prepare this statement
but that the City Treasurer mainti ned that it is not within
the scope of the duties of the City Collector -Treasurer
to prepare such a statement. Mr. Larson, City Treasurer
then offered to prepare this statement for the sum of
-15.CC per day ineddition to his regular salary.
The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded
by Frederick that Mr. Meyer, City Attorney, be authorized
to engage, if necessary, Harold Ahbe and Grace Rexses at
the rate of t.5C (Fifty Cents) per hour to check these
assessments and prepare the statement required by Mr.Meyer.
Said work to be paid for out of the appropriation for Court
Costs. The roll was called on the motion with the following
result: Ayes; Aldermen Carroll, .flughaupt, x'ulle, Huxmann,
Frederick, Neal and Meinshausen. Nays; Aldermen Ahbe,
Bishop and Schwanbeck. The Mayor thereupon declared the
motion carried.
City Attorney 1-eyer then reported that J.P.Brenner
and Co. holds past due bonds amounting to ==4` 2,00C.CC of
Special .Assessment ,7.60, and desire that the City take some
action in the matter. The matter was referred jointly to
the City Attorney and City TReasurer by the Mayor.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, request has been made to the City
of Des Plaines to authorize and direct the City
Clerk to accept certificates issued by the Des
Flaines Merchant's Clearing House Association
in payment of corporate obligations including
water bills; and
WHEREAS inview of the present emergency,
any measures which may relieve the conditions
created by this emergency are desirable, and
it is believed that acceptance of the said
certificates may in same measure furnish relief.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Des Plaines that the City Clerk
be and he is hereby authorized and directed to
acceptecertificates issued by the said Des Plaines
Merchant's Clearing House Association in payment
of corporate obligations and including water accounts.
Be it further resolved
that the City Clerk shall from time to time
disburse and deliver said certificates to any of
the employees or creditors of the City of Des Plaines
who shall be willing to accept the same in full at
Dar of their obligations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Cork shall
keep a true and accurate account of the receipts of
said certific21te and shall report to the City Council
at the first meeting of each month the number of such
certificates received and the amount of the same.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall
be in full force and effect from and after its passing
and approval according to law.

The motion was made by Alderman "Tulle and seconded by l'flug-
haupt to adopt this proposed resolution. The roll was called
on the motion with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen
Abbe, Carroll, Pflughaupt, Fulle, Huxmann, bishop, Frederick,
Neal, Schwanbeck and Meinshausen. Nays; None. The Mayor
thereupon declared the motion carried and the resolution
adopted.
Alderman Ahbe, Chairman of the Buildings and Plats
submitted to the Council the Standard Oil Company's appli_
cation for permit to install six (6) ten thousand (10,000)
gallon oil and gasoline tanks on its property on e1 rd Avenue.
The motion was made by Alderman nuxmann and seconded by
Fulle to postpone action on this application until the next
regular meeting of the Council, and to instruct the Clerk
to notify ter. L dd. R.Schlagel that this application is
being considered by the Council.

The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the
Mayor declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Frederick and
seconded by Huxmann to instruct the Clerk to write the
Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and the State Highway
Department to provide lights at the 6olf Golf Road
underpass at Cumberland. The lights to be as follows:
To be installed by C & W.Railroad:
Two (2) lights in stairway and tunrlell
Three (3) lights in subway
5 lights total
To be installed by State Highway Department:
One (1) light in subway on pedestrian walk
One (1) light in subway on roadway
2 lights total.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the
Mayor declared the motion carried.

seconded by Fulle to adjourn. The motion was voted upon
by acclamation, whereupon the ia.yor declared the motion
carried and the council regularly adjourned.

CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by T1ayor George
W.Kinder, with Aldermen -Aube, Carroll, tflughaupt, Tulle,
Huxmann, Bishop, Frederick, weal, Schwanbeck and Meinshausen
responding to the roll call.
THE COrMITTEE CN PUBLIC 1 ORKS,BUILDINGS AND PLATS
was the only Council committee which had a report to offer.
Alderman. Ahbe, chairman of the committee, re -submitted a
revised application and plans of the Standard Cil Company
for the installation of six, ten thousand gallon under-
ground gasoline storage tanks. Inasmuch as several Alder-
men contended that the tank capacity as well as the aggre-
gate total storage capacity of these tanks exceeds that
permitted by ordinance on property zoned for commercial
purposes, no action was taken in the matter. There beim
no motion regarding the matter, the Mayor ordered that the
Council pass on to the next order of business.
