07/30/1934375 by Pflughaupt to approve the minutes of the regular Council meeting held. July 2,1934 as written. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion unanimously carried, and minutes approved. Alderman Huxmann, chairman of the Police Committee reported that Officer Edwin Meyer is getting along nicely, and that the cast will be removed from his leg in a day or two. At the request of Alderman Huxmann, Mr. Harvey L.Rietz, insurance agent, reported that the Associated Indemnity Corporation is cancelling the City's compensation insurance policy as well as its automobile liability policy, and that a letter and notice of cancellation will be in the hands of the City Clerk in a few days. He stated further that the City has been covered by identical policies written by the United States Casualty Company, New York City, at the same rates, by the same broker; and that the policies dated July 1,1934 have already been delivered to the City Clerk. The motion was made by Alderman Schwanbeck and seconded by Meinshausen to instruct the Clerk to write the Soo Line Rail- road asking that the Prospect Avenue (Park Avenue) crossing be provided with concrete approaches. The motionwas voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. The motion was made by Alderman Bishop and seconded by Meinshausen to adjourn. More than twenty-four hours before the hour set for the meeting the following notice was sent to the Mayor and members of the Councils Suly 27 1934 NOTICE OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING To the Members of the City Council City of Des Plaines,Illinois Dear Sirs You are hereby notified that upon call of Mayor George W.Kinder there will be a special meeting of the City Council at the City Hall on Monday, July 3Cth, 1934 at 8:00 r.M.Sharp. The purpose of the meeting is to settle an important matter pertaining to Relief Work in Des Plaines, and such other matters as may be timely. Please be present promptly at eight o'clock, as it is expected that the meeting will be a very short one, and should be over in 30 minutes or so. Respectfully, E.T.FRIEDRICH,City Clerk 376 The meeting was called to order by Mayor George .Kinder, with Aldermen Carroll, Pflughaupt, Hux- mann, Bishop, Frederick, Neal and Meinshausen-responding to the roll call. Aldermen Ahbe and Schwanbeck w ere absent. WORK RELIEF: Mayor Kinder then stated that out of the gang of seventy-five men originally allowed on the Cityts Work Relief Projects an average gang of only twelve men has been assigned. He stated further that reports seem to indicate that there are not enough men available in Des Plaines who could be assigned to fill the quota and that the authorities have asked that out of town men be permitted on these projects, the City to pay their transportation. The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by Bishop that the Mayor appoint a special committee of five aldermen with full power to act, to handle this matter. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. Mayor Kinder thereupon appointed the following aldermen as members of this committee: Aldermen Bishop, Tulle, Meinshausen, Frederick and Neal. RE -ZONING t The Clerk, then read the following petition: July 30, 1934 TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF DES PLAINES s Gentlemen: We hereby request that Lots 16, 17, 18, 19 in Block 2 of Mechanic's Addition to Des Plaines, being Alies Subd. of the S 15 Acres, W 11, N.E.i etc be rezoned from Commercial to Industrial Property. Yours very truly, H.c. and R.O.Sigwalt Per- R.O.Sigvalt The motion was made by Alderman Frederick and seconded by Carroll to refer this petition to the Zoning Board of Appeals with the recommendation that the necessary steps be taken to grant this petition. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. At this point Alderman Huxmann was excused from the meeting. WIDENING LEE STREET: The motion was made by Alderman Pflughaupt and seconded by Meinshausen that the Streets and Side- walks Committee and the City Engineer be instructed to introduce at the next Council meeting a resolution providing for the widening of Lee Street from the alley behind the Masonic Temple Building northward to Perry Street by means of State Motor Vehicle tax funds.' The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. The motion was made by Alderman Meinshausen and seconded by Frederick to adjourn.
