Municipalities should now unite to have Section 2 of the Sales Tax Act amended so that the word "persons" as defined in the Act, will net include municipal cor- porations within the meaning of the Act. This will re- lieve municipalities from paying the 2% Sales Tax on sales of water' and electricity. The -LEAGUE has asked Governor Horner to include an item on this subject in his Third Special Session Call and has a bill already prepared for introduction. If you want your municipality to be relieved of the payment of this tax, it is imperative that you telephone, wire, or write the Senator and three Repre- sentatives from your District to support the LEAGUE'S bill on this subject. If the Call for the Third Special Session has not been issued by the time you receive this letter, you should get in touch with the Senator and Representatives from your District immediately and urge them to wire the governor to include this item in his Third Special Session Call. Let's act quickly and effectively in this matter and thus insure definite results. There are 461 municipal water plants in Illinois and 53 municipalE lectric plants, all of whom would benefit if this proposed amendment, taking municipal corporations outside the definition of the word "persons" in the Sales Tax lct, is passed. After you contact your Senatore and Representatives, kindly let me know at once what their attitude is.
