The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried and the resolution adopted. The Clerk then read the following letter: WEST BIDE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION OF DES PLAI LS February 3, 1.34 280 Mayor & City Council City of Des Plaines,I11. Gentlemen: I am requested to bring to your attention the condition that exists at the corner of Prairie and Second Avenue. This is a busy and dangerous intersection and most of the children attending the West Side School use this crossing. Some time ago we had a "No Parking" sign placed on the South side of Prairie Avenue from Second, east about 20C feet. This allowed only one line of cars and so reduced the hazard. This sign however, has been taken away and though the fact has been brought to the attention of the Street Committee no action has been taken. The condition is now aggravated by the fact that the building on the Korth side of Prairie Avenue is a "Tavern" and therefore numerous cars are parked there. A somewhat similar condition exists at First & Prairie the business section of the' 'est Side, where cars park over the side walks and into the street leaving often only a narrow single lane for traffic. We do not wish to cast any reflections on any committee or upon the Police force, but these conditions have existed for a considerable length of time and have been brought to the atten- tion of the Council and those whose business it is to remedy this dangerous situation. Hoping this matter will receive your prompt attention, 1 remain Yours sincerely J.11.127. IS sec. Alderman Huxmann then announced that the Police and Fire Departments are promoting a joint benefit on February 22, 1e34 at the Des Plaines Theatre for the purpose of paying for the inhalator recently purchased. The price of admission will be 50 cents.
