MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MTING OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES HELD
IN THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE ON THE 23rd
DAY OF OCTOBER A.D.1933 AT THE HOUR OF
8:10 P.Ms
More than 24 hours before the time of this
meeting the following notice was sent by messenger
to Mayor George W.Kinder, and each of the Aldermen:
NOTICE TO ALDERMEN
CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF DES PLAINES:
You are hereby notified that upon call of Mayor
George W.Kindee, there will be a special meeting
of the City Council in the City Clerk's office,
on Monday evening, October 23,1933 at 8 o'clock.
The purpose of the meeting is to approve certain
very necessary repairs to the water tank, and
several other matters.
You are urged to be at the meeting promptly at
8 o'clock in order that it may be adjourned at
an early hour.

The meeting was -called to order by Mayor
George W.Kinder, with Aldermen Ahbe, Collet, Pflughaupt,
Dean, Huxmann, Bishop, Friott, Frederick and Meinshausen
responding to the roll call. Alderman Enzenbacher entered
the meeting later in the evening.
Mayor Kinder stated that the first order of
business would be consideration of repairing the City's
water tank. Alderman Bishop, chairman of the Water
Committee reported that upon an offer by the Ureenlee
Construction Company to make a thorough inspection of
the inside of the water tank free of charge, the tank
was emptied and such inspection was made by Mr. Greenlee
and one of the Water Department employees. This inspection
revealed that the spider in the tank was rusted beyond
repair, and that some 250 rust pits had developed which
will have to be welded; also that the rivets which hold
the roof on the tank are practically all rusted out. Mr.
Bishop further reported that he has asked for bids on weld-
ing ttLe pits, installing a new spider, rebolting the roof
to the tank, and painting the interior of the tank. He sub-
mitted the following bids whichvsere read by the Clerk:

This agreement made and entered into this 23rd
day of October 1933, by and between Greenlee Construction
Co., of Cherry Valley, Illinois, party of the first
part and the City of Des Plaines, hereinafter known as
party of the second part,
WITNESSETH:
That the party of the first part agrees to clean

scrape and wire -brush inside of said water tower and
riser pipe and to paint inside of said water toyer
and riser pipe with two coats of red lead and oil paint.
Party of the first part further agrees to furnish
all tools, material and scaffolding to complete above
mentioned work and to carry liability insurance for
protection of said city of Des Plaines, Illinois.
Party of the second part agrees to pay to party of
the first part $150.CC upon completion of above mentioned
contract.

C O N T RAC T
This Agreement made and entered into this 23rd day
of October, 1933, A.D. by and between Greenlee Construction
Company, of Cherry Valley, Illinois, party of the first
part and the City of Des Plaines, Illinois, hereinafter
known as the party of the second part.
WITNESSETH
That the party of the first part agrees to replace
spider in water tower, located in and belonging to the
City of Des Plaines, Illinois and further agrees to repair
roof of said water tower and to weld all places in tank
where necessary and any other work ordered done by the City
of Des Plaines, Illinois.
Party of the second part agrees to pay him and his
men 31.50 per hr. for all work ordered done, upon completion
of above mentioned Contract.
Party of the first part further agrees to furnish
all tools and scaffolding necessary to complete above men-
tioned work, and to carry liability insurance for protection
of said city of Des Plaines, Illinois.

Gentlemen:

I herebye wish to submit my proposal for painting
and repairing your Village water tank: -
For the sum of Three hundred and seventy-five( 375.00)
dollars 1 will do the following work: -
4=1
Remove all rust
Apply two coats of paint to exterior of tank
3 Apply one coat of paint to interior of tank
4 Replace spider and rods
5 Repair roof of tank
6) Furnish all labor and material
(7) Guarantee workmanship and material for
five years.
(8) Provide the necessary protection insuring
the Village from any possible loss.
TERMS: One Hundred (100) dollars when job is
finished and accepted. Balance to be
paid in monthly payments of Twenty-five
(25) dollars.
If there is any question as to my ability to perform
this contract, I will be glad to demonstrate and also
furnish references.

The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by Collet
to refer this matter to the Water Committee with power to act.
The roll was called on the motion with the following result:
Ayes; Alderman Ahbe, Collet, 1'flughaupt, Dean, Huxmann,
Bishop, Friott, Frederick, and Meinshausen. Nays; None.
The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried.
The Clerk then reported that Mr. Henry Sigwalt,
president of the Maine Township High School Board, should
like to have the City join this board in an attempt to
ascertain how much general t ax money is being held by the
County, and to make demand for the same. The motion was
made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by Collet to refer
this matter to the Finance Committee with power to act.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the
Mayor declared the motion carried.
A&derman Huxmann reported that a deposit premium
in the sum of .200.00 is due the Metropoliton Casualty Co.

for general compensation insurance; and also that a fire
and tornado insurance premium of `157.50 is due W.L.Plew
& Co., but that there is no cash on hand to pay these
premiums. The motion was made by Alderman Bishop and
seconded by Huxmann to instruct the Treasurer to sell
a 1933 General Corporate Tax Anticipation Warrant in
the sum of $357.50 to the Vehicle Fund for cash, in
order to pay the above bills. The roll was called on
the motion with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen
Ahbe Collet, Pflughaupt, Dean, Huxmann, bishop, Friott,
Frederick, Enzenbacher and Meinshausen. gays; done.
The Mayor thereupon ,declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Frederick and
seconded by Pflughaupt to adjourn. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the
motion carried and the Council regularly adjourned.

HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON THE 6th
DAY OF NOVEMBER,A.D.1933. AT THE HOUR

The meeting was called to order by Mayor George
;.Kinder, with Alderman Ahbe, Collet, Pflughaupt,
Dean, huxmann, Bishop, Friott and Frederick, respond-
ing to the roll call. Aldermen Enzenbacher and iieins-
hausen arrived shortly after the roll cell.
The Clerk read the following reports:

of Oct.1933.
A copy of the report of C.M.Larson, City Treasurer
was given to the Mayor and each of the Aldermen.
The Judiciary and Assessment Committee had no
report to offer.
The Police and -License Committee had no report
to offer.
The Streets and Sidewalks Committee had no report
to offer.
The Committee on Public `Works, buildings and Plats
had no report to offer.
The Sewer Drainage and Sanitation Committee had
no report to offer.
