EDGAR J.FRIEDRICH,City Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETI1G OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON THE 16th DAY OF OCTOBER, A.D. 1933 AT THE HOUR OF 8:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor George W.Kinder with Aldermen Ahbe, Collet, Pflughaupt, Dean, Huxmann, Bishop, Friott, Frederick and Meinshausen res- ponding to the roll call. Alderman Enzenbacher entered the meeting shortly after the roll call. The Judiciary and Assessment Committee had no report to offer. Alderman Huxmann, chairman of the Police and License Committee reported that the Committee had a meeting with the business men who have not paid their 1933 business licenses,in which the matter was fully discussed. He re- ported further that it was made clear that all 1933 busi- ness licenses must be paid at the present rate, and that if these rates are not equitable, steps will be taken to revise the licensing ordinance so as to make it effective January 1, 1933. He stated further that as far as the Police and License Committee is concerned, the Council order instructing the Police to issue summons to such as have not paid their 1933 business licenses, still stands. 216 Alderman Huxmann, chairman of the Police and License Committee submitted the following applications for licenses to sell retail bottle beer, not for con- sumption on the premises where soldt 1.The Great A & P Tea Co. 1434 Miner St. 2.The Great A & P Tea Co. 714 Center St. The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by Collet that these licenses be granted. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. Alderman Huxmann, chairman of the Police and License Committee reported that the new police squad car is to be delivered in a day or twol Alderman Collet, chairman of the Streets and Side - Walks Committee, asked that some action be taken to induce the State Highway Department to provide a curb along the stretch of pavement being constructed across the Soo Line tracks. Engineer, Carter Jenkins thereupon submitted the following resolution which was read by the Clerk: WHEREAS: RESOLUTION The Short section of roadway, now being constructed on Algonquin Road by the Illinois Division of Highways, has been provided with curb and gutter at its inter- section with Mannheim Road and at its intersection with Keeney Avenue, so that the intervening portion appears to be uncomplete and serious difficulty may be encoun- tered in handling the drainage of the street area unless curb and gutter are constructed over the remaining dis- tance; AND WHEREAS, the safety of the traveling public and the general usefulness of the improvement will be greatly enhanced by the construction of said curb and gutter, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Department of Public Works and Buildings, State of Illinois, Division of Highways, be and it is hereby urgently requested to take the necessary steps to immediately construct at its expense, curb and gutter on both sides of Algonquin Road between Mannheim Road and Keeney Ave. all in the City of Des Plaines. The Clerk then read the following letter: BOARD OF COMIISSIONERS OF COOK COUNTY,ILLINOIS October 10 ,1933 Mr.E.J.Friedrich City Clerk Des Plaines,Illinois Dear Mr. Friedrich, I am in receipt of a copy of your letter sent to the President of the County Board and 1 wish to advise that at the last meeting of the County Board, the Highway Department was directed to prepare plans and speci- fications for the building of a sidewalk on Miner and Demp- ster Street. It was reported that this matter had been recommended by the Highway Department sometime ago but it evidently was lost in the shuffle somewhere along the line. It was pointed out however that the government could not finance the purchase of the Cater Well. Carter Jenkins, engineer, further reported that several aldermen have inquired as to how much additional, a plant for complete treatment of our water, would cost. He stated that accurate information regarding all phases of this question could be gathered for approximately $100.00, so that the entire cost of preparing plans and specifications for the Federal Public Works Administration would be $900.00 instead of $800.00 as previously appropriated. The motion wasmade by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by Enzenbacher to authorize Mr. d.enkins to include in his plans and specifications, additional plans for complete treatment of our water, and that an additional sum of $100.00 be appropriated for this purpose.
