OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DES PLAINES HELD IN THE COUNCIL
CHAMBERS ON THE 21st DAY OF =UST,.
A.D. 1933, AT THE HOUR OF SOOO P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor George
W.Kinder, with Aldermen Ahbe, Collet, Pflughaupt, Dean,
Huxmann, Bishop, Frederick and Meinshausen responding to
the roll call. Alderman gnzenbacher entered the meeting
Shortly after the roll call, while Alderman Friott was
absent for the entire meeting.
Alderman Pflughaupt, chairman of the Finance
Committee inquired whether or not former City Clerk,-
Fayette 0.Merrill has'been making restitution for his
bhortage. City Clerk Friedrich replied that a letter has
been written to Mr. Merrill during the past Week, calling
his attention to the -fact that he has not complied with
his agreement with the City and asking him to Berke a sub-
stantial remittance in the near future.
Alderman Huxmann, chairman of the Policeand

The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by
Pflughaupt to grant this license. The motion was voted upon
by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried,
and the license granted.
The Committee on Public larks add Buildings had
no report to offer.
The Sewer Drains#e and Sanitation Committee had
no report to offer.
Alderman Bishop, chairman of the Water Committee
reported that the. Algonquin Road Keeney Avenue water main
connection has been successfully completed and that the
State has begun to pave this section. He further reported
that 30 men were employed, and that about $340.00 in past
due water sills have been worked off by these men. Alderman
Bishop also reported that the collector for the 'Vater Depart-
ment has up to date collected $2',.496.00, trot including an
account of some 4600.00, nor including sirciwster bilis as
have been worked off by city employment.
The Band Committee had no report to offer.
The Fire Committee had no report to offer.
Alderman Collet, cha irkan of ,thee Streets and Side-
walks Committee reported that streets are still being patched.
He then called 'pen Carter Jenkins, engineer, who reported
that Milburn. Bros., contractors 1ndiCAted their willingness
to widen out the curve: on Prairie',Am4010katArlington Avenue,
and also grade tihe streets in NRivervieit,. jn payment of their
past due water bill, provided however theft they are allowed
to select their.awn time to de this. wort'. Me further reported
that they would *be willing t• beim-- in abut two weeks, and
will submit their estimate on the proposid work to Alderman_
Collet.

Adlroad replied that traffic did net, waarrant adding a
new train, but that they would gladly stop the 3155 A.M.
train (2155 Chicago daylight saving time i.if a request is
made to the local station agent before leaving, or if such
roe est iso handed to the Station Maeterda Pticago, upon
arrival In Chicago.
The Clerk then submitted a bid from the Layne
Nortli.Central . Co. for reconditioning the p•,,, • on the

City Attorney Meyer reported that Tolman,
Sexton & Chandler, attorneys, representing the bond holdes
of Special Assessment f99 have notified him that unless
the city levies a supplemental to protect the bond holders
a suit would be filed to mandamus the City to do so.
Alderman Nuxmann reported that these attorneys have been
in touch with him also, but that he persuaded them to defer
action -for at least six months. the motion was made by
Alderman Huxnann and seconded by heinshausen to refer
this matter.to the Judiciary and Assessment Committee for
consideration and report. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
City Attorney Neyer, then reported that the Des
Plaines Recreation Parlor has asked the Council to grant
the beer license, which was denied according to the *ZOO
foot rule", and introduced Mr. .[bels, representing the Dee
Plaines Recreation Parlor, who asked the Council to modify
the *200 foot rule."" The motion was made by Alderman Bishop
and seconded by Frederick to refer this matter to the Police'
and License Committee for consideration and report. The

Heffniann's Grove on Thursday afternoon, August 31,1933, and
suggested that all merchants be requested to 'close their
places of business on that afternoon. The motion was made
by Alderman Fuxmann and seconded by Meinahausen that all "es
