The Clerk then read the following letter:
March 13, 1933.
Mayor 'and City Council of the
City of Des Plaines,
Cbok County, Illinois.
Gentlemen:
' In the past there has been some discussion as to
the method of handling the funds of the Library Board, At
the present session of the Legislature; there was introduced
in the House, house bill No, 257 which provides for the pay—
ment of moneys for the support of'a library directly to the
Library Board. This bill provides, however, that the Library
Treasurer shall be required to give bond for the protection
of this money. The bill as it is drawn apparently recognizes
the fact that the proper practice at the present time is to
pay the money to the Gity or Town Treasurer as has been
practiced in the City of Des Plaines. The bill has passed
first reading in the House.
I am furnishing this information so that any one
interested in having all of the Library funds turned over to
the Library Board may urge their representative in the House
or Senate to support the passage of this bill.
I am sure the City will be gald to be relieved of
the responsiblility of this fund if it can be turned over to
the Library and properly protected as required by law.
Very truly yours,
DBM : C L D. B. MALONEY.
The Iayor suggested that the facts contained in the letter be given
some publicity in the local newspaper.
The suggestion was made by Alderman Huxmann that the Clerk
write the telephone company asking that the officials of the City
be given free telephone service.
The following proposed ordinance was discussed and read
for first reading:
AN ORDINANCE

OF THE CITY OF DES PALINES FOR MUNICIPAL PUR-
POSES, DESIGNATED THE "ANNUAL APPROPRIATION
BILL" FOR TIE FISCAL YEAR COr„ iENCING JANUARY
1, 1933 AND ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1933.
There being no further business to come before the
Council, the meeting adjourned.
EDGAR J. FRIEDRICH, Gity Clerk.
