Des Plaines, Illinois,
July 23, 1932.
Dear Sir:
Within the city limits pf Des Plaines on
Route 19, there are two island -in the center of
the street, one immediately west of. the Miner
Street bridge and the other one some blocks farther
west. We believe that these islands are a dangerous
hazard to the traveling public due to the enormous amount of traffic
over -this route.
I am asking your cooperation in getting these islands
removed and filled in with pavement. I would be very pleased
if you would consider this proposition and let me know at
your earliest opportunity your ideas on this matter. If
you believe that these islands should be removed and are
willing to cooperate with us, we will have our constractor
do the work and there will be no expense whatever to the
City.
Yours very truly,
E. C. 7ENGER(R.M. I.

The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and seconded by Collet that

SUBJECT: DESIGN - S. B. I. Route 63.
414, 2, 1932.

Hon. Chas. Hammerl, Mayor,
Des Plaiges, I11.
Dear Mr . Hammerl:
The resolution which you
forwarded to Director Cleaveland,
passed by the City Council of Des
Plaines, has been referred to me.
Contract for widening
Route 63, between Chicago and Orcahrd
Place, begins approximately 700 feet eadt
of the soo Railroad. The widening
of this route began at this point
in order to permit the construction of
a grade separation with the Soo Rail- •
road at some future date. This De-
partrient has now adopted a new policy
of constructing grade separations of
timbered pile trestles which will'be
paid for by the State and maintained
by•the railroad.
Irr accordance with this new
policy it is our desire to copperate
with the Soo Railroad for the construc-
tion of such a separation during 1933.
In view of these facts the
Department does not deem it advisable
to extend our present contract across
The Soo Railroad at grade.
Eery truly yours,
H. E. Surman .
ENGINEER OF DESIGN
STATE OF ILLINOIS DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS DEPARTMENT.
The motion was made by Alderman Huxmann and -seconded by Meinshausen
to instruct Mr. Jenkins to continue in his efforts to secure this
corssing widening. The motion was voted upon by acclamation,
whereupon the Mayor declaredthe motion carried.
Alderman Collet then introduced Mr. Paul Giorno of Des
Plaines, who addressed the Council stating that he should like to
vend sandwiches and "hotdog& from a wagon, but that he is unable
• to pay the necessary business license. The case was referred to the
Police and License Committee by the Mayor, with power to act.
Alderman Lacey presented the following bills, chargeable
to the Water Department truck used by G. Bullis withour permission&
Fischer's Garage for repairs $13.61
Peter Geisen for Towing 7.00
The motion was made by Alderman Lacey and seconded by Finder
that only the towing bill of $7.00 be charged to Mr. .i%ullis, and that
the $7.00 be paid to Peter Geisen by the City, and further that instead
of approving Mr. Bullis' pay check (disallowed at the regular Council
meeting of July 18.) for $57.34, the x$7.00 be deducted, and the pay
check be approved for $50.34. The roll was called on the mation with
the following result: Ayes; Aldermen Ahbe, Collet, Pflughaupt, Dean,
Huxmann, Kinder, Lacey, Friott, Enzenbacher and Meinshausen. Nays;
None. The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried.

612 Webford Ave.
Des Plaines, I11.
July 25, 1932.
Members of City Council
City of Des Plaines.
I hereby present a petition to have the name "Laurel Ave.
extend to embrace that portian of Webford Avenue on which -my
residence is located .
There are only two lots which coli d be said to face on
this portion which I want changed; namely that of Theodore
Marten now of San Benito, Texas, and mine. Mr. Marten dhose
to number his on Prairie Ave. but his house really faces as
mine does.
The numbers are confusing in this locality. One block
of Webford, is numbered in the 1300's, the other in the 500's
We are Sften inconvenienced and strangers often lose their
way.
Since I constitute 50% of the property owners, will it be
to obtain Mr. Marten's consent? He does not intend to come
back here, so I would like to get the name changed before he
sells the property.
Hoping that my desire may be carried out for the convenience
of many. I remain.
Yours truly,
Hester A. Bennett.
