THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES
PLAINES, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS
ON THE 5TH DAY OF JuLY 1932. AT THE
HOUR OF 8 craw= P. M.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Rammerl, with Aldermen
Collet, Pflughaapt, Dean, Lacey, Enzenbacher and. Meinshausen responding
to the roll call.
The Clerk then read the following officers reports for the
calendar month of June: -

The report of City Clerk, E. 1. Friedrich,

At this point Alderman Huxmann entered the meeting.
The Clerk then read the following resolution :-
RES OLU T I ON
BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Des Plaines,
Illinois, that the City Attorney be and he is hereby author-
ized to enter the appearance of the City of Des Plaines in
the matter of the application of the Station of Lake Bus Line
for a certificate of convenience and necessity to operate as
a motor carrier for passengers between the City of Crystal Lake
and the City of Chicago, and intermediate points, said action
being pending before the Illinois Commerce Coumission;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City of Des
"Mines is opposed to the granting of this application for
the following reasons, among others:
That the operation of buses over the s treets of
its city will be dangerous to the residents of the City;
That the City of Des Plaines now has adequate
and sufficient passenger trains running between Des Plaines
and Chicago to take care of passengers residing in siad City;
That public necessity and convenience of the
City of Des Plaines does not require the operation of buses
for the transporation of persons between Des Plaines and.
Chicago and intermediate points.
The resolution was referred to the Judiciary Committee for investigation
and report, by the Mayor.
The Clerk then read the following letter :-
TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES AND
THE HONORABLE ADERMIN OF THE CITY COUNCIL:
I hereby complain about Snow Plows and other equipment being
stored on a sidewalk on Jefferson near Pearson Street, The
parking of the same hinders pedestrian travel on the above
sidewalk and necessitates walking in the street, thereby
jeopardizing the lives and safety of our children.
The above situation complained of is about fifty feet distant
from a Public 6choor.
I, being a neighbor of the above garagemen and not wishing to
cause any personal animosity between said garageman and
myself, have not signed this complaint, however, unless the
condition above complained of is not remedied, 1 shall
procure a signed petition, bearing the signatures of the
property owners and tax payers in this vicinity.

I am given to understand that the said plows and equipment
belong to the state highway Department of the State of Illinois
and T believe that the Mayor and the City Cbuncil should
instruct the Clerk of said Council to write to said Highway
Department, instructing them to remove the above obstructions
Department, instructing them to remove the abote obstructions
from: the sidewalks of our city, or that the committee in
charge of roads and streets should immediately take steps
to correct the situation.
A TAXPAYER RESIDING ON JEFFERSON STREET
The motion was made by Alderman Enzenbacher and seconded by Meinshausen to
refer this letter to the Streets and Sidwalks Committee with Power to act.
'The motion was voted upon by Acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared
tilt motion carried.'

Gentlemen:
The. Chicago Cheldern's Benefit League are asking
permission to tag in Des Plaines oh Monday October 10, 1932.
This is one of the three regular tag days approved
by the Chicago Assciciation of Commerce.

The motion was made by Alderman Pflughaupt and'seconded by Meinshausen
that the request contained in this letter be granted. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion
carried.

Upon'order of Mayor Hammerl consideration of this matter was indefinitely
postponed.
At this it point Alderman Kinder entered the meeting.
The Clerk then read the folloiing recommendation of the
Streets and Sidewalks Committee:
RECOMMENDATION
Your Street Ebommittee, to whot was referred the
'question of installation of reflector stop lights on
'Prairie Avenue, desires to report that it has considered
'the question of the installation of reflector stop lights
' and respectfully recommends that rdflector stop lights
'by selected by the Street Committee to be installed
'one (1) each at the Northest corner and the Southwest
'corner of First Avenue and Prairie 'Avenue, Second} Avenue
and Prairie Avenue, Third Avenue and Prairie Avenue,
Fourth Avenue and Prairie Avenue, and Ilifth Avenue and
Paririe Avenue, and at Woodlawn Avenue and Second Ave.

The motion was made by Alderman Lacey and seconded by Dean toaidopt
the recommendation as read. The roll was aalled on the motion with
the following result: Ayes; Aldermen Collet, Pflughaupt, Dean, Lacey,
and Enzenbacher. Nays; Aldermen Huxmann, Kinder, and Mienehausen.
The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried and the recommendation
adopted.
Alderman Enzenbacher then addressed the council and pres-
ented a request of the Holy Name Society of4St. Mary's Church for a
permit to conduct a carnival on the Church's property on Center St.
and Prairie Avenue, as well as on Prairie Avenue, from July 20th to
July 24 inclusive; and to permit closing of Prairie Avenue from
Pearson St. to Center Street, for this purpose. The motion was made by
Alderman Enzenbacher and seconded by Meinshausen to grant this request.
The roll was called on the motion with the following result:- Ayes;
Alderman Collet, Pflughatut, Dean, Huxmann, Kinder, Lacey, Enzenbacher,&
Meinshausen, Nays; None. The Mayor thereupon d eclared the motion carried.

Alderman Collet suggested that because of the weak pavement
steps be taken by the Council to prohibit the passage of heavy trucks
over Graceland Avenue. The motion was made by Alderman Kinder and
seconded by Enzenbacher to refer this matter to the Streets and
Sidewalks Committee with,instructions to get an ap#hion from Mr.
Maloney, attorney., The motion was voted upon by acclaMation, where-
upon the Mayor declared the motion carried,
The Clerk then read the following resolution:
RESOLVED THAT THE FOLLOWING BILLS ARE
DUE AND PAYABLE AND THAT THE MAYOR AND
CITY CLERK ARE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE THE

The motion was made by Alderman Pflughaupt ands econded by Enzenbacher
to adopt the resolution exceptingthe bills rendered by Ralph Davis,
Thistle Commissioner, amount of 37.80. The rollwas called on the
motion with the following result: Ayes; Aldermen Collet, Pflughaupt,
Dean, Huxmann, Kinder, Lacey, Enzenbacher and Meinshausen. Nays; None.
The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Kinder and seconded by
Enzenbacher to approve the minutes of the regular Council meeting of
June 20, 1932 as well as of the special meeting of June 24, 1932.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared
the motion carried, and the minutes approved.
Alderman Huxmann then called the Council's attention to the
fact that the Judiciary Committee was instructed some months ago,
to study and report to the Council on the'possibility,of placing all of
the cities insurance at the sate time, so as to affect a Saving, and at
the aanie time maiktiala order in the City's insurande matters. The motion
was made by Alderman Hsxmann seconded by Ptlughaupt to instruct the
Judiciary Committee to submit its report on Insurance at the next regular
meeting of the Council. The motion was voted upon by ,Acclamation, where-
upon the Mayor declared the motion carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Enzenbacher and seconded
by -Lacey to instruct the Clerk to consult Mr. Maloney attorney, regarding
the removal ,of the shack and lumber on the property of Gus J. Spier
atManheim .toad and Everett Street, and to give Mr. Spier final notice
to remove it, in accordance with Mr.`Maloney's suggestions. The motion
was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion
carried.
The motion was made by Alderman Enzenbacher and seconded by,
Collet that the Council adjourn. The motion was voted upon byAccla-
