OF DES PLAINES HELD IN THE COUNCIL
CHAMBERS ON THE 18TH DAY OF FEBRUARY
A. D. 1931, AT THE HOUR
OF 8 O'CLOCK P.M.
Mayor Hammerl called the meeting to order with
Alderman Kinder,• Ahbe, Enzenbacher, Collett, Lacey, Wettin,
Knabb, Schlagel,'Heesch, answering to roll call. Alderman
Suster being absent.
A communication from the chairman of the finance
committee with reference to the financial affairs of the City
was read and placed on file. The communication also states that
that after a preliminary examination of the books of the City,
there is an apparent discrepancy in the accounts, and he recom-
mended to the Council that the Council employ the auditor to
continue the examination of the books and records of the City,
for the purpose of determining the exact financial condition of
the City.
Motion by Ahbe, seconded by Collett, that the Council
employ the auditing firm of Fraser and Talbot to examine the
books and records of the City, and that the City Clerk and Treas-
urer be instructed to turn over to the auditors, all books and
records of the City for examination, and the same was carried by
a roll call, all voting Aye.
The City Treasurer was called into the Council Cham-
bers, to make a statement to the Council. He informed the Coun-
cil that he first noticed there was a shortage in November 1930,
but after checking back, he found it started in October 1929,
Also the City Clerk confessed to him that he was short in his
accounts, and asked his advice as to what was the best course
to pursue, to straighten matters up.
Alderman Ahbe moved that the bonds of the City Clerk
and Treasurer be produced for inspection, Alderman Wettin
seconded the motion and the same was carried by a vote of acclam-
ation.
Alderman Kinder moved that (Mr. Heesch) the Chairman
of the finance committee be authorized to purchase two consecutive
numbering machines for numbering the daily receipt slips, and
that the Chairman of the finance committee cause all receipts to
be numbered, and that all money collected by the City Clerk and
City Collector be deposited the same day it is collected, and
that the Chairman of the Finance committee be instructed to
arrange with the Bank for a night deposit box, Alderman Ahbe
seconded the motion and the roll was called with the following
results, Ayes, Alderman Kinder, Ahbe, Enzenbacher, Collett,
Lacey, Wettin, Knabb, Sehlagel, Heesch, None voting Nay. The
Mayor declared the motion carried.
,Alderman Enzenbacher made a motion that the Council
adjourn, Alderman Ahbe seconded the motion, same was carried,
and the Council adjourned.
