OF THE CITY COUNCIL .OF THE _ CITY OF
DES PLAINES HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS
ON THE 29th DAY OF DECEYRRR A. D. 1930
AT THE HOUR OF 8 O'CLOCK P. M.
Mayor Hammeri called the meeting to order with Alderman
Collet, Ahbe, H.eesch, Suster, Schiagel, Wettin, Lacey, Knabb and
Enzenbacher answering to roll call.
Alderman Knabb moved that the minutes of the last meeting
be approved as written. AldermanC*114 aeconded this motion and
the same carried by vote of acclamation.
The report of the City Collector for the month of December
was read and referred to the Finance Committee.

The report of the Police Department for the month of
was read and ordered placed on file.
The annual report of the Police Department as submitted
by the chief follows:

Gentlemen:
Yearly report of the Police Dept. beginning January
1st, and ending December 31st, 1930.
Number of arrests made during the year by all Police
Officers were 1436, Total amounts of Pines assested by Judge
Hayes & Sengstoctc during the year amounted of $5,451.00.
Salaries for all Police Officers during the year
amounted to $13,050.50.
Total amount of Gas & Oil consumed and cost of same by each
Motorcycle Police Officer including the Police Cars are as
follows: Police Cars Total Gas consumed 1,839 gallons. Oil
125 qts. cost of same *372'.35.
Officer Hammerl's MotCyc.-Gas 264 Gal. 0i155gts. Cost $61.95

Total Cost of gas & oil for both Police cars & Motorcycles
amounted to $567.49.
Total amount of gas consumed 2657 Gallons
" " " oil " 281 qts.
This does not cover expenses on repairs for Police Cars & Motor-
cycles. Accident calls received by Police Dept. and answered are
as follows: Auto Mobile Accidents 'Which all took place in the
City Limits, during the year amounted to 46. Of these 46 accid-
ents 4 people were killed and 28 more or less serious injured
and taken to Hospitals & Local Doctors by local Police Officers.
During the year three (3) Suicides were committed. Two
people were killed during the year and railroad crossings by
passing trains.
14 Automobiles were reported stolen during the year, while
parked on the Str€ets of Des Plaines, of these 9 were recovered
by the Police Dept. and returned to the owners.
During the year 9 Burglaries were reported. 4 Robberies
and 5 Hold Ups. of these 9 dealt with according to Law. Total
losses by these Burglaries & Robberies amounted to less than
$400..00.
244 Miner complaints have also been received and answered
by the Police Dept. during the year.

The Judiciary & Assessments had no report @o mace at
this time..
The Streets & Sidewalks Committee had no report to make
at this time.
The Sever Drainage and. Sanitation Committee reported
the work for unemployement at the incinerator as completed.
The Police & License Committee had no report to make at
this time.
The Water Committee had no report to make at this time.
The Fire Committee had no report to make at this time.
The following letter and Resolution was presented to the
City Council at this time.

Mayor and City Council of the
City of Des Plaines
Cook County, Illinois.
Gentlemen:
I herewith submit an original and copy of lease
made by the Chicago and Borth Western Railway
Company for the. portion of the right of way
North of Elmwood Street as opened between .Lee
Street and. Lrraceland Avenue.
The lease is for a period of five years for the
sum of *1.00. The only obligation the City of
des Plaines aesumes is that of removing a switch
track which is now in place on the property.
This is the switch track and property as to which
there was some discussion some time ago and the
Chicago and North Western Railway 'ompany have
granted my request for the use of this property
for park purposes.
In the event the City of Des Plaines Desires to
accept this property subject to the obligation
to remove the spur track and to maintain curb
etc. around the premises and subject to the
further consideration of *140, I would suggest
that the attached resolution be passed.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Chicago and North Western Railway
Company is willing to execute a lease to the property
described in the attached leas submitted herewith;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Des Plaines desires to
accept the said property subject to the terms of the
said lease.
BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Mayor and
City Clerk of the City of Des Plaines be and they are
hereby authorized to execute the said lease, and that
be and is hereby in-
structed to take the necessary steps to caus the
removal of the said spur track in accordance with the
terms of the Chicago and Borth estern .Railway Company.
Be it further resolved that this Resolution
sahll be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and the approval thereof according to law.

Alderman Kinder moved that lease and Resolution be referred to the
Public Works, Fire Building and Uity Plats Committee with the Jud-
iciary and Assessments Committee for a report on same. Alderman Ahbe
seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of acclamation..
Alderman Collet brought up the matter of purchasing some
reflectors for use in Cumberland. Following a discussion on this
matter Alderman Enzenbacher moved that the request for reflectors be
granted and the Matter referred to the Police & License Committee for
action. Alderman Knabb seconded this motion and -the roll was called
with the following -result, Ayes Alderman Collet, Ahbe, Heesch, Suster,
Schlagel, Kinder, Lacey, Wettin, Knabb and Enzenbacher. -hone voting
Nay the Mayor declared the motion carried.
The question of raising the license for reddiers was
referred to -the City Attorney for a report.
Tge Finance Committee presented the following
recommendation
We recommend that the City Treasurer make the following trans-
fers on his records to be in the form of a temponpyloan.

Alderman Schlagel moved that the recommendation of the Finance
Committee be accepted Alderman Suster seconded this motion and the
roll was called with the following result. Ayes Collet, Ahbe, Heesch,
Suster, Schlagel, Kinder, Lacey, Wettin, Knabb and Enzenbacher. hbne
voting Maye the Mayor declared the motion carried.
RESOLVED THAT THE FOLLOWING BILLS ARE
DUE AND PAYABLE AND THAT THE MAYOR AND
CITY CLERK BE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE THE
PROPER WARRANTS TN PAYMENT OF SAME.

voting nay the Mayor declared the motion carried and directed
that the proper warrants be issued.
There being no further business to come before the City
Council at this time on motion of Alderman Collet seconded by Alder-
man Lacey same adjourned.
