Alderman Collet moved that the permission be granted, to the Illinois Bell Telephone Company to do the work requested. Alderman Ahbe seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of Acclamation. The following letter from the County Board of Assessors was presented to the Council at this time. Dear Sir: On August 22nd, 1929, this board called to the attention of the various taxing bodies the necessity of revising their 1928 Tax Levy Ordinance. A copy of that communication is attached herewith; also a form of resol- ution applicable to the 1929 Tax Levy is submitted for your use. In many instances where the suggested action was not taken for the 1928 Tax Levy, a larger tax collection, a hig- her tax rate than was expected or required, together with attendant dissatisfaction of local tax -payers resulted. Attempts to place upon the re -assessment the respon- sibility for higher taxes and excess collections have been met with facts and tax -payers have been fully advised as to the cause of the increase in taxes. These facts have militated against those who are charged with the duty of revising downward t±ie Tax Levy Ordinance to fit requirements and actual expenditures during the past fiscal year. We suggest that you place this important matter before your Board at an Early date so that proper reductions may be made, thereby avoiding any excessive and unnecessary tax extensions required by the existing Tax Levy Ordinance now in the possession of the County Clerk. Very truly yours, COOK COUNTY BOARD OF HSC:AW ASSESSORS. The City Clerk was instructed to place same on file. 260 A A letter from the Illinois Commerous Commission relative to the subway to be constructed at Golf Road and the Chicago N. W. R. R.
