OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF .
DES PLAINES HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAM-
BERS ON THE 26th DAY OF MAY A.D. 1930
AT THE HOUR OF 9 o'clock P. M.
Mayor Hammerl called the meeting to order With Alderman
Collet, Ahbe, Heesch, Buster, Kinder, Schlagel, Lacey, Wettin,
Knabb and Enzenbacher answering to roll call.
The Mayor stated that this was an adjourned meeting of the
City Council.being held for the purpose of considering bids for
the purchase and removal of three buildings located upon the right
of way held by the City of Des Plaines for the ,extention of Ellin-
wood Street. The City Clerk informed the members of the Co4ncii
that several bids had been received for this work.
Alderman dchlagel moved that the City Clerk be directed to
open and read the bids that had been received. Alderman Collet
seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of acclamation.

sonally and carefully examined, to his personal satis-
faction, the location, condition, and character of the,
(1) Two-story brick store building, (2) One-story con-
crete block building and (3) A frame shed, numbered
respectively 1,2, and 3 on attached plans, to be sold
and removed from the right-of-way of Ellinwood Street.
That he has personally and carefully examined, to
his personal satisfaction, the means of approach thereto,
the advertisement to bidders, and the requirements for
bidding,
That he fully understands that all structures must
be removed and premises cleared and debris removed by five
(5:00) P.M., Daylight Saving Time on June 20th,1930:
That he HEREBY PROPOSES to complete the purchase
and removal of said buildings within the time
limit fixed in accordance with this proposal, and pro-

of Des Plaines for the extension of Ellinwood
Street on the basis of our receiving the cost
of all labor connected with the removal, plus
15 %, it being understood that said cost will
not exceed $1200.00.

It --is further understood that the City of Des
Plaines is to receive all salvage value derived
from the materials resulting. from the dismantling
of the buildings.

Alderman Heesch moved that the bids be referred to the Engineer for
his recommendation. Alderman auster seconded this motion and the
same carried by vote of acclamation.
Attorney Maloney presented the folkwing ordinance and explained
the agreement which was attached to same:
AN ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, the City of Des Plaines has heretofore pro-
vided for the opening and extending of Ellinwood Street in
the City of yes Plaines afld filed proceeding in the County
Court of Cook County known as No. 62694 for the said opening;
and
WHEREAS, a portion of a building owned by the Des Plaines
Lumber and Coal Company extends approximately ten (10) inches
on to the portion of the property taken for the opening of
Ellinwood treet, and that the said Des Plaines Lumber and
Coal Company desires during the summer of 1930 to wreck the
said building and to build other improvements in Des Plaines
necessary and convenient for its business, and it is des-
irable that the City of Des Plaines permit the said build-
ing to extend into Ellinwood 6treet until reasonable oppor-
tunity is permitted to construct other buildings for its
business; and -
WHEREAS, an agreement has been made by and between the
City of Des Plaines and the Des Plaines Lumber and Coal Co.
as to the removal of the said building and for the deposit
of monty in order to guarantee Ahe removal of the said
building, copy of which agreement is hereto attached?
BE IT THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council
of the City of Des Plaines, Cook County, Illinois:
SECTION/1- That the Mayor and City Clerk be and they
are hereby authorized and empowered to execute agreement
between the City of )es Plaines and the Des Plaines Lumber
and Coal Company providing for the removal of the said
building and permitting the Des Plaines Lumber and Coal
Cofpany to allow the said building to extend into Ellinwood
Street as and when opened until the time specified in the
said agreement.
SECTION 2- That this ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and the approval there-
of according to law.

Alderman Heesch moved that the rules of the City Council be suspended
and that the ordinance be put on for passage on first reading. Alder-
man Collet seconded this motion and the roll was called with the follow-
ing result: (Ayes) Alderman: Collet, Bhbe, Heesch, Buster, Kinder,
Schlagel, Lacey, Wettin, Knabb, and Enzenbacher. None voting Kaye the
Mayor declared the motion carried.
Alderman Heesch moved that the ordinance be passed as read.
Alderman Ahbe seconded this motion and the roll was called with the
following result: (Ayes) Alderman Collet, Ahbe, Heesch, Buster, Kinder,
5chlagel, Lacey, Wettin, Knabb and Enzenbacher. None voting Naye the
Mayor declared the motion carried and the ordinance parsed as read.
Engineer Jenkins announced that he had checked the bids referred
to him and had found that the bid of Edward Nissen to be the best re-
sponsible bid. He further recommended that the contract be awarded to
Mr. Edward Nissen for the sum of Forty Dollars (340.00) payable to the
City of Des Plaines. Alderman Heesch moved that the contract for the
wrecking, and removal of three buildings located upon the right-of-way
held by the City of Des Plaines for the extension of Ellinwood Street
be awarded. to Mr. Edward Nissen. Alderman Buster seconded this motion
and the roll was called with the following result. ( Ayes) Alderman
Collet, Ahbe, Heesch, Buster, Kinder, achlagel, Lacey, Wettin, Knabb,
and Enzenbacher. None voting Naye the Mayor declared the motion carried
and the contract awarded to Mr. Edward Nissen.

Schlagel seconded this motion and the roll was called with the following

Lacey, Wettin, Knabb and Enzenbacher. None vo;;,ing Naye the Mayor de-
clared the motion carried and the appointments confirmed.
Considerable time was spent here in discussing the question of
having a patrolman walk regular beats within the resident section.
official action was taken on this matter.
Alderman Ahbe moved that the City Clerk be instructed to write the
Manager of the Lincoln Tavern requesting him to kinding removeg the sign
erected on the Kufke Property on East Miner Street. Alderman Collet
seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of acclamation.

The matter of condemning an old building at 1632 Henry Avenue
was referred to the Public Works_, Fire and City Plats Committee for
a recomendation.
There being no further business to come before the Council at
this time on motion duly made seconded and unanimously carried same
adjourned.
