MINUTES UTES OF AN ADJOURNED MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DES PLAINES, HELD IN THE -
COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON THE 16tH day
OF JANUARY, AT THE HOUR OF 9 O'cloci
P. M.
The Mayor called the meeting to order with Alderman
Collet Heesch, Ahbe, Kinder, Scrilagel, Schroeder, Knabb, Lacey and
Enzenbacher answering to roll call. Alderman Suster being absent.
The Mayor explained that this was an adjourned meeting
for the purpose of considering a report of the Finance Committee
and transacting such other business that might come before the
Council at tnie time. Since the report of the Finance Committee
was not ready the Mayor instructed the Cleric to proceed with such
other business as he might have.
Reports from the City Collector covering collections through,
the collector's office up to an including January 11, 1930 were read
and refered to the Finance Committee.
The following patition was presented at this time.
January 16, 1960
To the Honorable mayor and Council of the City of Des Plaines:
Whereas; vye Imitxtxg the undersigned, are of the opinion that
the present business license fee for garages and filling
stations is unfair and
Whereai; we feel that a just fee for business automotive
products, automotive accessories, automotive repairing and
petroleum products, an one or all, be Twenty Five Dollars,
3325.00).
Now therefore, be it resolved that the city Council change
the city ordinance relating to the fee for the above mem-
tioned business to Bead, "the license fee for any business
place selling automotive products, automotive accessories,
automotive repairing and petroleum products, any one or all',
be Twenty Five Dollars."

AN ORDINANCE
PROVIDING FOR CURBING, DRAINING, GRADING
PAVING AND OTHERWISE IME'ROVING THE ROADWAY -
OF WESTERN AVENUE IN THE CITY OF DES PLAINES
COUNTY OF COOK AND STATE OF ILLINOIS.
Alderman Schlagel moved that the Ordinance be passed as read.
Alderman Schroeder seconded this motion and the roll was called
with the following result $Ayes* Heesch, Schlagel, ochroeder,
Lacey Knabb and Enzenbacher "'Nage" Collet, Ahbe, & Kin&er whereon
the mayor declared the motion carried and the Ordinance passed as
read.
Mayor Hammerl then submitted the name of Miss Mary Taiicott
as a member of the library board of trustees to fill the vacancey
caused by the resignation of Mrs. L. BBrobst. Alderman Schroeder
moved that the appointment be confirmed. Alderman Lacey seconded
this motion and the same carried by vote of acclamation.
Alderman Knabb as chairman of the sewer, Lrainage and
Sanitation Committee recommended the appointment of a Special
Policeman to watch the City incinarator and prevent private
dumping during hours that the engineer was not in charge. The
matter was refered to the police and License 'ommittee for a report.
Alderman Lacey suggested that the signs at the outskirts
of the City be changed so as to show the correct number as to Pop-
ulation. Engineers Jenkins reported that the ''tate highway depart-
ment would make these changes providing they were requested to do
so. The matter was left with the.ngineer to correct.
Alderman Heesch moved that 0200.00 be transfered from the
Judiciary and Assessment fund to the Municipal band fund to be
returned on the receipt of ueneral taxes. Alderman Schlagel seconded
th~is-motion and the -same carried by vote of acclamation.
Alderman heesch as chairman of the Finance Committee
presented the following resolution.
RESOLVED THAT THE FOLLOWING BILLS ARE
DUE AND PAYABLE AND THAT THE MAYOR AND
CITY CLERK BE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE THE
PROPER WARRANTS ON THE CITY TREASURER
IN PAYMENT OF THE SAME.

Alderman moved that the report and Resolution of the .Finance
Committee be adopted. Alderman Ahbe seconded this motion and the
roll was called pith the following result. *Ayes" Collet, Ahbe,
Heesch, Schlagel, 'chroeder, Lacey, Knabb and .nzenbacher.
whereon the Mayor declared the motion carried and directed that
the proper warrants be issued.
• Liderman achal;e1 brought up the matter of the new tax
valuations and considerabel time was spent discussing the manner
which the local assessor nad followed while the tax books were in
iiia posession . The final outcome of the discussion was the
appointment of a Citizens Committee to 'imeet with the Citizens on
Wed. evening to assist any vino might wish to obtain their new
assessed valuation. Mayor Hammer' did not announce the members of
the Committee but stated AC would select them the following
morning.
There being nothing further to come before the City
Council at this time the motion duly made seconded and carried same
adjourned
