Mayor Hammerl called the meeting to order with Alderman. Collet, ]Eeesch, Suster, Kinder, Schlagel, Schroeder, Lacey, Knabb. and Enz.enbacher answering to roll call. Alderman Ahbe being. Absent. Alderman Collet moved that the minutes of the regular meeting Yield December .2nd 1929 be ap=proved as written. Alderman Sdhroeder seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of acc- lamation. Mae it Ceilector's report covering collections through the * ccilectort"s office of December 14th, 1929 was read and refered to the Finance committee. The City Clerk's report' eovering collections through the Clerk's office for the monthof November, 1929. Was read and ref- ered to the Finance Committee. The City Treasiirer''s report for the month' of November, 1929. was read and refered to the Finance Committee. The Tudiciary and Assessment Committee had no report to submit at this time. The Police and License Committee presented the following recommendations December 16, 1929. Mr. John Sus ter, Chairman, Police and License Committee Des Plaines, I11. The Public Works, Fire, Building and City Plata Committee submitted the following letter and annual report of the Des Plaines Fire Department.. Alderman Schroeder moved that the report be excep- ted and made a smatter record en the minutes of the City Council Alderman Knabb seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of acclamation. Twenty five 'calls have been reported this year, ten of which have been out side the citylimits. Of the fifteen calls in the city four were automobiles, one was a house in the Des Plaines ‘Jamp ground, and ten calls for real estate property in Des Plaines proper. It has taken 286 men to fight the recorded 25 fires or an average of 11 answering each alai. Nb firmen has been seriously injured throughout the past year, however three persons were slightly burnt in an auto accident, one burnt while cleaning with naptha, and one killed oy an explosion that caused the fire at Higgins and Manheim Roads. Various causes of fires were as follows°1- EXplosion of gasoline cooking device, Mot Water Neater', Electric Vlat Iran, lire Pot in Smoke House, 'Overheated stove pipe, defective chimney, broken ereetrie light cord in gasoline pump, aeeteline Torch, crossed Irireov-Heating Auto Motor with Gasoline, Children Playing With matches, Cleaning with Naptha near open frathe, 32ebtrid 'rites put through floor, incendary and unknown i Rapid -and efficient work of the' department is nanaly responsible fOr nd damages having been created on twenty three other cats that. have been made through -out the year. Spiegler Secretary, Des Plaines Fire Department The Sewer Drainage and Sanitation Committee had no report to make at this time. The Water and Water Mains Committee had no report to make at this time. Alderman Lacey questioned the matter of requesting the Chicago Northwestern Railroad Company to supply shelter on the plat- form of the new track laid during the summer. The matterwas refered to the City Clerk to take up with the Officials of the Railroad Co. Alderman Enzenbachet brought up the matter of the Supple- mental Assessmentaffo 81 and No. 83 and stated that several of the property owners did not understand the teaso# for the supplemental and that in his estimation the matter, Of -the newspaper article printed the previous week was not very cleat in explaining the matter. Alderman Heesch moved that the reportor be -requested to obtain the proper explanation from the City Clerk and print same in next issue of the Times. Alderman Lacey moved that the recommendation of Alderman Heesch be made a motion and that an article covering both the supplemental on 81 and 83 be prepared and published in the next issue. Alderman Kinder seconded this motion and the same carried by vote of acclamation. At this time Alderman Schlagel and Alderman Buster entered into considerable discussion regarding the oposition to Special Assessments and Public,improvementa being shown by c,rtain of our citizens. Alderman Suster expressed his opion regarding this oposition and thuught the Council Should procede with such improvements as they considered proper with- out listening to petty oposition. The City Clerk submitted a report of the Middle States Telephone Company covering compensation for the third quarter of 1929. The report was refered to the Finance Committee.
