06161952690 MINUTES OF TIE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF DES PIA INES, ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, MONDAY, _JUNE _I6. 1952,. at 800 P_M. CALL TO ORDER. The Mayor being absent the Clerk called the roil with Alderman Hansen, Davis, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, McKay, Clement, Morava, and Amok responding to roll call. Alderman Behrel was absent. On motion by Alderman Auck and seconded by Schallawitz, Alderman Clement was appointed Mayor pro tem. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The motion was made by Alderman Hansen and seconded by Auck to approve the minutes of June 2, 1952. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the mayor pro tem declared the motion carried. OFFICIAL REPORTS. The Clerk submitted the report of the City Treasurer for the month of May. A representative of the State Highway Department was present so the Council decided to open bids on widening of part of Graceland Ave. Jefferson Street, and Park Place. On motion by Alderman Auck and second by Tures the Clerk was instructed to open the. bids. The following bids were received: Milburn Bros., Inc. Mt. Prospect 41,330.00 Skokie Valley AsphaltCe. Des Plaines 45,935.25 Robert A. Black Inc. Chicago 48,436.75 McDuffie-Brown-Brophry Chicago 48,012.75 Arcola Midwest Corp. Euaston 47,861.50 The bids were refered to the Finance & Street Committees, and Engineer. After a short recess Alderman Hansen reported and made the motion to *Ward the bid to Milburn Bros, and return the checks to the other builders, which was seconded by Alderman McKay. The Mayor pro tem put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the foilowing_result: Ayes:Alderman nansen, Davis, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, McKay, Clement, Morava, & Auck. Naga: None. The Mayor pro tem thereupon declared the motion carried. OPEN BIDS FOR HEATING PLANT AT GARAGE. On motion by Alderman Morava and second by Tures the Clerk was instructed to open the bids -for heating plant at garage. Bids were received from Northwestern Heating Co.c Evanston, Central Heating Co. Des Plaines, Lincoln Heating Co. Chicago, and Mee)sn Corp. Chicago. The bids were refered to the Finance and Public Buildings Committee. OPEN BID ON USED ADDRESSOGRAPH. On motion by Alderman Tures and second by Auck the Clerk was instructed to open the bid on used addressograph. The Des Plaines Journal's bid was *52.00. On motion by Alderman McKay and second by Schallawitz the bid of Des Plaines Journal was accepted. Alderman Wolf, Chairman of the Public Buildings committee reported the following regarding a new dog pounds: Your committee recommends that the City Attorney draw up a contract with the Harmening Animal hospital to board dogs. On motion by Alderman Hansen and second by Auck the report was concurred in. SECOND BEADING OF ALLEY VACATION ORDINANCE 0. SALINGER &-Co. SUBDIVISION. The Clerk read the second reading the following proposed ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE VACATING PUBLIC ALLEY After discussion the motion was made by Alderman Hansen and seconded by Morava to refer the proposed ordinance back to the Street Committee to receive information from the owner George Burgess, The City Attorney informed the Couto it that the Clerk, bad another ordinance on Street vacation. On motion by Alderman" Auck and second by Schallawitz that ord- inance was also refered to the Street Committee. Alderman Schallawitz informed the Council with the exception of the Wetterman Realty license. All business license were paid. On motion by Alderman Schallawitz and second by Davis the item was refered to the City Attorney for collection. The Clerk received the following letter from the Chicago & North- western Ry. The matter of the freight cars is being turned over to R. w. Heron, Supt. Wisconsin Division for further handling. With reference to the matter of passenger trains smoking on the side track. The CIrk informed the Council he had received a petition June 3, 1952, for a ref- erendum for annexation. The motion was made by Alderman Hansen and seconded by Davis to hold the referendum at the next City General election. The Mayor pro tem put the question and at a request the Clerk called the rpll with the following result: Ayes: Alderman Haasen, Davis, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, McKay, Clement, Morava, and Auck. Nays: None. The Mayor pro tem thereupon declared the motion carried. Approve Burgess River Park Addition Plat. The Clerk submitted a plat approved by the Pian Commission. After discussion the motion was made by Alderman McKay and seconded by Morava to approve the plat. The motion was then made by Alderman Tures and seconded by Auck to refer the Clat to the Municipal Development Committee. The Municipal Development ommittee recta vended to approve the plat. The motion to refer the plat to the committee was then withdrawn and the Mayor pro tem put thi question to approve the plat. The clerk called the role with t he following result: Ayes: Alderman Hansen, Davis, Wolf, Schallawitz, McKay, Clement, and Morava. Nays: Alderman Tures and Auck. The Mayor pro tem thereupon declared the motion carried. ApPROVAL OF BTLJS. Alderman McKay Chairman of the Finance Committee presented the following proposed resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES, THAT THE FOLLOWING BITT,S ARE DUDE AND PAYABLE AND THAT THE MAYOR ANDCITY CLERK BE AND ARE HEREBY AUTHORIZED TO MAKE PAYMENT FOR SAME. (Schedule of bills placed before each Alderman and affixed to resolution, and on file with the City Clerk.) The Motion was made by Alderman McKay and seconded by Hansen to adopt the proposed resolution. Alderman Hansen made the motion which was seconded by Tures that a letter be sent protesting the proposed ammunition dump at OsHare Airport. After discussion on motion by Alderman Wolf and second by Schallawitz it was refered to the Public Protection Uommittee. ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman Hansen and seconded by Davis to adjourn.
