07161951MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY'OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, MONDAY. JULY 16, 1951. AT 8:30 P. M. CALL TO ORDER. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer, who presided with Aldermen Hansen, Davis, Wolf, Tures, Behrel, Schallawitz, McKay, Morava and Auck responding to roll call. Alderman Clement was absent due to vacation. (City Clerk, Otto Henrich,wgs on vacation also.) Alderman Morava invited the Mayor and City Council to the formal dedication of the Elks club building on Sunday, July 22nd, at 2:30 P.M. Mayor Meyer commented on the wonderful display of fireworks given on Sunday, July 15th. He stated they were the best ever displayed. Alderman Hansen, Chairman of the Streets and Sanitation Committee, reported that the electrical contractors are now trying to find out what the trouble is with the lights in Cumberland, Cumberland Terrace and the downtown area. Alderman Hansen hoped the contractors could find the cause of the trouble within a short time. ' The Mayor mentioned that he already has had calls from two different companies in regard to the bond issue on parking lots. Mayor Meyer also reported that he had an appointment tomorrow morning with the president of the Benjamin Electric Manufacturing Company on the smoke problem. Mayor Meyer also mentioned that he had attended a meeting with the Mayor of Park Ridge and another official in regard to the proposed cemetery to be located at the southwest corner of Cumberland and Denpster Roads. Actually'we would not have too much to say concerning this item, due to the fact the cemetery would be more than one and one-half (1-) miles from Des Plaines; Park Ridge and Niles would naturally be affected more. The motion was made by Alderman Davis and seconded by Behrel, that the Clerk write to the County Zoning Board opposing the location of this cemetery. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried. MARSHALL HOWARD'S REPORT IN RE LUND CASE. Marshall Howard's report concerning the Lund case was ordered placed on file by the Mayor. PASS ORDINANCE IN RE DISABLED VETERANS VEHICLE LICENSE. The Deputy Clerk read for second reading the following proposed ordinance: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 1045 OF CHAPTER 22, ENTITLED "VEHICLE LICENSES" OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES OF 1928, AS AMENDED. The motion was made by Alderman Morava and seconded by Wolf, to pass the proposed ordinance. The Mayor put the question, and the Deputy Clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes: Aldermen Hansen, ,Davis, Wolf, Tures, Behrel, Schallawitz, McKay, Morava,and Auck. Nays: None. The Mayor thereupon declared the motion carried and the ordinance adopted. HANNIFIN CORPORATION'S APPLICATION FOR LIGHT INDUSTRIAL CLASSI- FICATION. The motion was, made by Alderman Behrel and seconded by Schallawitz to refer the application to the Zoning Board of Appeals sitting as a com- mission to call a hearing. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The motion was made by Alderman McKay and seconded by Tures to approve the minutes of the adjourned meeting of July 9th, 1951. The motion was voted'. upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried and the minutes approved. At this time, inquiry was made by a visitor as to the garbage and rubbish schedule for Westfield Gardens. The Mayor referred this item to the Streets and Sanitation Committee and the Superintendent of Public Works. ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman McKay and seconded by Morava to adjourn.
