At the suggestion of the Mayor, it was approved on motion by
Alderman Halverson and second by Behrel to have the City Attorney join in
defending the case of the Nebel Trailer Camp.
Mr. R. P. O'Brien, 973 Margaret Street, was granted permission
to talk at the request of Alderman Clement. Mr. O'Brien said he thought
that the punch boards were about the same as slot machines, because they
paid off in money, therefore he thought the elected officials should
have the law enforced by not allowing them in the City. On questioning
by the Mayor, he stated that he had seen the punch boards in four taverns.
The Mayor asked Mr. O'Brien to stay after the Council adjourned so that
he could meet with him in the Mayor's Office because as Mayor, he was
the Liquor Commissioner and the matter was under his jurisdiction.
(Mr. O'Brien met with the Mayor as requested.)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The motion was wade by Alderman Hansen
and seconded by Morava to approve the minutes of March 19, 1951. The
motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the
motion carried and the minutes approved.
ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman Behrel and seconded
by Davis to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon
the Mayor declared the motion carried and the meeting regularly adjourned.

Des Plaines, Illinois
Dear Sir:
The Zoning Board of Appeals had referred to it the petition of
certain property owners for a variation in the building line and/or the
sideyard line for garages adjacent to Birchwood Street on property described
as follows:
Lots 1 to 12, being a resubdivision of all of Block 4
except lots 9, 10 and 11, therefore, together with
vacated Fargo Avenue, lying between Blocks 5 and 6,
and vacated LaGrange Street, lying between the South
line of Blocks 4 and 6, and the North line of Blocks 4
and 5, and vacated alleys in Blocks 5 and 6 --all in

Welwyn Avenue.
3. That the placement of the buildings on the lots and the requirement
of a twenty-five (25) foot setback line from the back of the lot (Birchwood
Avenue) prevents the construction of garages on the lots by reason of space
limitations.
4. That the petitioners have agreed that ingress and egress for vehicles
will not be had from Birchwood Avenue and that restrictive covenants will
be placed of record on each lot to that effect.
5. That the Plan Commission and the Municipal Development Committee are
in favor of granting a reasonable variation.
6. That there were no objectors to a variation at the public hearing.
7. That the evidence presented by the petitioners was convincing as to:

Dear Sir:
This will confirm the conversation representatives of our Traffic
Department had with you recently regarding speed limits on Des Plaines
Avenue and on Wolf Road.
Arrangements are being made to re -locate the town name sign on
Wolf Road from Thacker Street to Algonquin Road, and at the same time
35 M.P.H. signs will be erected in this section.
The town name sign on Des Plaines Avenue will be moved south to
Touhy Avenue and erected with a 40 M.P.H. limit. We would appreciate your
police department taking some action to prevent the operator of the fruit
stand on River Road near Touhy Avenue from doing business on the State
right-of-way.
Very truly yours,
C. H. Apple
District Engineer
