0416195157 At the suggestion of the Mayor, it was approved on motion by Alderman Halverson and second by Behrel to have the City Attorney join in defending the case of the Nebel Trailer Camp. Mr. R. P. O'Brien, 973 Margaret Street, was granted permission to talk at the request of Alderman Clement. Mr. O'Brien said he thought that the punch boards were about the same as slot machines, because they paid off in money, therefore he thought the elected officials should have the law enforced by not allowing them in the City. On questioning by the Mayor, he stated that he had seen the punch boards in four taverns. The Mayor asked Mr. O'Brien to stay after the Council adjourned so that he could meet with him in the Mayor's Office because as Mayor, he was the Liquor Commissioner and the matter was under his jurisdiction. (Mr. O'Brien met with the Mayor as requested.) APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The motion was wade by Alderman Hansen and seconded by Morava to approve the minutes of March 19, 1951. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried and the minutes approved. ADJOURNMENT. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer, who presided with Aldermen Hansen, Davis, Vavrinek, Wolf, Baines, Behrel, McKay, Clement, Halverson and Morava. The Mayor reported that he had been contacted by the Chicago and North Western Railway regarding the resolution on their train service. Alderman Davis and the Mayor are to meet with the Superintendent of the Wisconsin Division and requested the aldermen to give him any information they have on complaints of the service. The Mayor also reported that the police department had checked the taxicab meters. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS REZONING. Warnicke Supt. of Public Works City Hall Des Plaines, Illinois Dear Sir: This will confirm the conversation representatives of our Traffic Department had with you recently regarding speed limits on Des Plaines Avenue and on Wolf Road. Arrangements are being made to re -locate the town name sign on Wolf Road from Thacker Street to Algonquin Road, and at the same time 35 M.P.H. signs will be erected in this section. The town name sign on Des Plaines Avenue will be moved south to Touhy Avenue and erected with a 40 M.P.H. limit. We would appreciate your police department taking some action to prevent the operator of the fruit stand on River Road near Touhy Avenue from doing business on the State right-of-way. COOK COUNTY ZONING HEARING. The Clerk informed the Council that he had received a notice of public hearing for rezoning R-4 (Residence) and F (Farming) to B-1 (Business District) on the east side of Curtis Street, approximately 125 feet south of Central Avenue in Maine Township, April 20, 1951, at 8:30 P.M. from the Zoning Board of Appeals of Cook County. VERNELL JACKS APPOINTED TO ELECTRICAL COMMISSION. On motion by Alderman Halverson and second by Behrel, the appointment of Vernell Jacks to the Electrical Commission was approved. Mr. Jacks is replacing Edwin Murphy. The Mayor referred the drafting �f an ordinance for the speed of autos in alleys to Marshall Howard, City Attorney.
