CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES,
ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS,
MONDAY, MAY 8, 1950, AT 7:30 P. M.
CALL TO ORDER. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kenneth G.
Meyer, who presided with Aldermen Hansen, Davis, Vavrinek, Wolf, Baines, Behrel,
McKay, Clement, Halverson and Morava responding to roll call.
PASS WAREHOUSE BOND ORDINANCE. The city clerk read for first read-
ing the following proposed ordinance entitled: '
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR BORROWING
MONEY AND ISSUING BONDS OF THE CITY
OF DES PLAINES, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS,
IN THE AMOUNT OF °100,000 FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ACQUIRING A MUNICIPAL WARE-
HOUSE AND GARAGE NECESSARY AND
ESSENTIAL TO THE EFFICIENT ADMINISTRATION
OF THE AFFAIRS OF SAID CITY AND PROVIDING
FOR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF A DIRECT
ANNUAL TAX FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE
PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST CF SAID BONDS.
The motion was made by Alderman Baines and seconded by Morava to
suspend the rules and place the proposed ordinance on passage. The mayor put
the question, and the clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes:
Aldermen Hansen, Davis, Vavrinek, Wolf, Baines, Behrel, McKay, Clement,
Halverson and Morava. Nays: None. The mayor thereupon declared the motion
carried, the rules suspended and the proposed ordinance before the Council
for final passage. The motion was made by Alderman Baines and seconded by
Morava to pass the proposed ordinance. The mayor put the question, and the
clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes: Aldermen Hansen,
Davis, Vavrinek, Wolf, Baines, Behrel, McKay, Clement, Halverson and Morava.
Nays: None. The mayor thereupon declared the motion carried and the ordi-
nance adopted.
ENGINEER FLETCHER TO.DRAW FLOOR PLANS OF WAREHOUSE. The motion was
made by Alderman Halverson and seconded by Morava that Engineer Fletcher draw
the floor plans of the warehouse. The motion was voted upon by acclamation,
whereupon the mayor declared the motion carried.
LETTER FROM AMERICAN LEGION CONCERNING "POPPY DAY, MAY 26". The
mayor read. a letter from the American Legion Post No. 36,requesting the mayor
to proclaim May 26, 1950 as Poppy Day. On motion by Alderman Halverson and
second by Baines, the request was granted.
LETTER FROM V. F. W. POST NO. 2992. The mayor read a letter from
the V. F. W. Post No. 2992, inviting the City Council to attend the dedication
of their new colors on May 18, 1950.
The mayor appointed the following as a special committee to investi-
gate the space in the warehouse for City Departments: Aldermen Clement,
Halverson, Hansen and Morava.
COUNCIL APPROVES CEDAR STREET DEDICATION. The motion was made by
Alderman Halverson and seconded by Baines to approve the plat of Cedar Street
dedication. The mayor put the question, and the clerk called the roll with
the following result: Ayes: Aldermen Hansen, Davis, Vavrinek, Wolf, Baines,
Behrel, McKay, Clement, Halverson and Morava. Nays: None. The mayor there-
upon declared the motion carried and the plat approved.
After a discussion on an unofficial referendum on postcard vote re-
garding the special assessment on the southside sewer, it was decided to send
postcards. The mayor appointed Alderman 'golf as Chairman and McKay, Halverson
and Engineer Fletcher as a committee to prepare the wording of the postcards.
ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman Baines and seconded by
Hansen to adjourn. The motion was voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the
mayor declared the motion carried and the meeting regularly adjourned.
