CIVIC CENTER, THURSDAY / SEPTEMBER 9 / 1993
CALL TO ORDER: The Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of
Des Plaines was called to order by Mayor Ted Sherwood at
7:00 p.m. in the Eleanor Rohrbach Memorial Council
Chambers, Des Plaines Civic Center on Thursday, September
9' 1993.
ROLL CALL: Roll call indicated the following aldermen present:
Christiansen, Elstner, Kisslinger, Curley, Sarlo,
Chiropolos, Haupt. Alderman Beauvais was absent.
Also present was: City Manager Douthwaite, Interim City Attorney Delort,
and Human Resources and Services Department Director Panouses.

Mayor Sherwood announced that the purpose of the Special
Meeting was:
a. EXECUTIVE SESSION/Employment of Public Works
Personnel
b. Restructuring of Public Works Department
Moved by Curley, seconded by Chiropolos, to go into
Executive Session to discuss employment of Public Works
personnel. Upon roll call, the vote was:
AYES: 7-Christiansen, Elstner, Kisslinger, Curley,
Sarlo, Chiropolos, Haupt
NAYS: 0-None
ABSENT: 1-Beauvais
Motion declared carried.
Council recessed at 7:01 p.m.
Council reconvened at 7:42 p.m.

following aldermen present:
Kisslinger, Curley, Sarlo,
Moved by Haupt, seconded by Chiropolos, to concur with
City Manager Douthwaite's recommendation regarding
proposed restructuring of the Public Works Department as
outlined in his memo of September 8, 1993, which included
the elimination of the positions of Superintendent of
Water/Sewer and Superintendent of Streets; the re-
positioning of these two individuals to Senior
Maintenance Workers at a yearly salary of $3 5, 000 -
$36,000, plus the option of cashing out their existing
vacation bank at their former salary and the option to
either keep their existing sick leave bank, which may be
more than the normal rank and file employee would have,
or cash it down to the maximum that a rank and file
employee would have at the standard rate of 50% of the
number of days above the maximum accrual allowed rank and
file. Upon roll call, the vote was:
AYES: 7-Christiansen, Elstner, Kisslinger, Curley,
Sarlo, Chiropolos, Haupt
NAYS: 0-None
ABSENT: 1-Beauvais
Motion declared carried
Moved by Christiansen, seconded by Elstner, that the
Special Meeting of the City Council adjourn. Motion
declared carried. Meeting a 'ourned at 7:50 p.m.
