MINUTES OF TIIE REGULAR. MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, HELD
IN TIIE COUNCIL ROOM, CITY HALL,
MONDAY, MAY 19 1967
CALL�TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Des Plaines was called to order by Mayor Herbert
H. Behrel at 8:05 P.M. The meeting opened with a
prayer by City Clerk Rohrbach, followed by the pledge of allegiance to
the ,flag.
ROLL CALL: Roll Call indicated the following aldermen present:
Rateike, Szabo, Prickett, Wright, Bolek, Leer, Figard,
Czubakowski, Wagner, Swanson, Martin, Bonaguidi,
Shillington. Absent was Alderman French
Present also were: City Comptroller Blietz, Police Captain Hintz, Building
Commissioner Schuepfer, Commissioner of Public Works Warnicke, Fire Marshall
Arndt, City Engineer Fletcher, and City Attorney DiLeonardi. Police Chief
Kennicott arrived at 9:35 P.M.
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.
MINUTES: It was moved by Alderman Prickett and seconded by

OPEN BIDS: It was moved by Alderman Bonaguidi and seconded by
Storm Sewer Alderman Wagner that bids received for Section #10
Section 10 _ of the Storm Sewer Program be opened. Motion Carried.

CANVASS OF VOTES: It was moved by Alderman Prickett and seconded by
Alderman Wagner that the Mayor appoint a Committee
to canvass the votes cast in the Municipal Election
held April 18, 1967. Motion Carried. The Mayor
appointed Alderman Bonaguidi, Chairman, Alderman
Rateike and Alderman Figard. Council recessed to
complete the canvass.

RESOLUTION DECLARING It was moved by Alderman Bonaguidi and
RESULTS OF ELECTION seconded by Alderman Rateike to adopt
the following Resolution: "Pe it Resolved
by the City Council of the City of Pes Plaines, Cook County, Illinois that
Joseph Szabo, Alfred Prickett, John Leer, Robert Linde, Corvin Wagner,
Ewald Swanson, John Seitz, and Edward Shillington having received the
highest number of votes cast for the office of Aldermen of the First,
Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Z,Iards for a full
term of four years and Pol,ert Michaels having; received the highest number
of votes cast for the office of Alderman of the Eighth Ward for a. term
of two years, shall be and they are hereby declared elected to' the office
of Alderman of said respective Wards for the aforesaid terms."

Cook County Zoning Docket City Attorney DiLeonar.di gave an oral

Alderman Szabo, seconded by Alderman Swanson to authorize and direct the
City' Attorney to file a protest against the rezoning of property as

Cook'County Zoning Docket #1159 City Attortiey DiLeonardi made an oral
North Side of Golf Rd. report of the Bearing of Cook County

Cook County Zoning Docket City Attorney made an oral report on the
1161 - east of Potter Pd. hearing of Cook County Zoning Pocket
#1161 on property located east of Potter
Road. It was moved by Alderman Prickett, seconded by Alderman Shillin ton
to alltliorize the City Attorney to file a protest against said docket;/'�

RETIRING - ALDERTIAN Former Alderman Martin, in his "parting words"
MART N to members of the City Council and those in
attendance reviewed the outstanding accomplish -
term menta of the City Council during his four-
year/in solving the water problen and succeeding with a Storm Sewer
program. In his words "An even greater problem and greater challenge,
which is a dream I had for four years and never saw it come to any real
fruit is the City Plan for a downtown development. I hope that the next
four years will bring this about" He expressed thanks to the people in
the seventh ward who placed their trust in him for a four year term in
electing him to the office of .Alderman, stating it had been a pleasure
to serve with all the members of City Council. In his closing statement,
he s4id, "anything that I can do to be of help to the City Council, please
do not hesitate to call on me." At the close of his remarks he was given
a standing ovation. Aldermen Bonaguidi remarked that he believed Alderman
Martin had always acted in the best interests of the City and the people
of Seventh Ward and that he will be greatly missed. Alderman Bonaguidi
thanked him for a "job well done." Mayor Behrel stated that even tho
City' Council didn't always agree with Mr. Martin, he believed he had the
good of the City at heart and was a good Alderman as the records will show.
Council reconvened with the following members present: Aldermen,Rateike,
Szabo, Prickett, Wright, Bolek, Leer, Figard, Hinde, Czubakowski, Wagner,

It was moved by Alderman Rateike , seconded by
Alderman Prickett, that City Council adjourn
sine die. Motion Carried.
OATH OF OFFICE
Judge Marvin J. Peters of Third District Circuit
Court administered the oath of office to the
newly elected aldermen, followed by a minute
of silent prayer in remembrance of former
Judge Albert L. Sengstock . The newly elected
Aldermen introduced their
families and expressed thanks to those who
assisted them in becoming
the newly elected aldermen.
