Information Technology Department 1420 Miner Street Des Plaines, IL 60016 P: 847.391.5300 desplaines.org Date: May 20, 2020 To: Michael G. Bartholomew, City Manager From: Romeo Sora, Director Information Technology Subject: Nimble Storage Solution Professional Services Issue: For the City Council to approve the Burwood Group, Inc. to install and configure the Nimble Storage solution. The 2020 budget has $35,000 approved for Nimble Storage professional services. Analysis: In 2014 the City of Des Plaines partnered with the Burwood Group, Inc. to right-size and upgrade its datacenter, infrastructure, and telecommunications. As part of the process, a centralized virtual environment was established. A key component to the virtual environment is the City's Nimble CS220G storage controller, and the 60TB attached storage array. In 2018 Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced that it will no longer be supporting the Nimble CS220G controller, and the official end of service life was 11/12/19. Understanding the important role the City's storage device plays within the Information Technology environment, on 4/20/2020 the City Council approved the purchase of a new supported and maintained Nimble Storage solution. Over the years staff has utilized the professional services of the Burwood Group, Inc. for the City’s advanced and highly specialized technical needs. Since the Burwood Group, Inc. was the City’s initial Nimble Storage solution integrator, they have the necessary knowledge of our current Nimble Storage solution, and are intimately familiar with the configuration of the City’s current datacenter, infrastructure, and telecommunications environment. The Burwood Group, Inc. has consistently provided the City of Des Plaines with quality service and support, and staff has been very satisfied with their performance. Staff is asking that the bid procedures be waived. Recommendation: I recommend the City Council waive bidding requirements and approve Burwood Group Inc., 125 S. Wacker Dr., Suite 2950, Chicago, IL 60606 to install and configure the Nimble Storage solution in the not to exceed amount of $23,000. The payment will be funded from the budgeted IT Professional Services Account (100-20-230-0000-6000).
