prayer by Rev. Robert Prader, pastor of
the First Methodist Church followed by the pledge of allegiance to the
flag.
ROLL CALL: Roll Call indicated the following aldermen
pres~nt: Figard, Czubakowski, Wagner,
Swanson, French, Bonaguidi, Rateike,
Szabo, Prickett , Wright, Rolek, Leer.
Absent were Aldermen Shillington and
Martin.
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.
Present also were City Comptroller Hlietz, Police Chief Kennicott,

City Engineer Fletcher reported that the
construction of the t.rriffic lights at
'Mt. Prospect and Mannheim will begin
shortly. He gave a progress report
on the reservoir and pumping station
shooting for Novenilier 1st as coMpletion

"The past year has witnessed a growing
controversy between the members of the
_ City's Fire Dcpartr:ient (and the present Des Plaines City Council regarding
the job classification anrl compensation ordinance now in effect.
"Just recently, the personnel and management consulting firm hired
by City Couricil to reevaluate the various positions within tl1e ctty
service further compoundect the dismay of the firemen by advocating (
further extension of the· unfounded difference presently existing be-
tween the public protection rleparttients. ·
"In view of this recent development and rleeply concerned with the
future impli'cations 'it suggests, we sincerely request the triayor and City
Council to appoint a Firenen 1 s_ Arbitration Board as soon us is feasibly
possible, to fairly and equitably adjudicate this serious situation.
