The Clerk read the following letter: • The request made for an additional Lieutenant and one more Sergeant, making a total of three Lieutenants and four Sergeants is to insure that there will be a man on duty at all times to take the responsibility for the actions,of the police department. Situations arise daily in dealing with our business men and the general public that requires an immediate decision and it is important to the administration, the public and the Police Department that a qualified man be available. The growth of the City has increased the need of more men being detailed on traffic duty, clerical work, and investigations. In my opinion it will require three more men for the efficient operation of the Department. It has been fifteen years since there.has been a reduction in hours for the department and I would like to have you consider a plan by which the men can be cut to forty hours when possible without interfering with the operation of the Department. This will attract a better group of applicants to fill vacancies and should insure that the City will continue to have a department that will be a credit to this fine city. • Thanking you for your past cooperation. Respectfully yours, /s/ A. Kennicott Marshal The Mayor referred the letter to the Police Committee. POLICE MAGISTRATE LETTER ON SOLICITOR CASE.
