CITY COUNCIL, DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS,
HELD IN COUNCIL ROOM, MAY 14, 1956, AT
8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER. The meeting was called to order by City Clerk Henrich due to absence of
the Mayor with Alderman Nelsen, McKay, Schubert, Dunlap, Wolf, Neff, Wexler, Martin,
Behrel, Prickett and Tistle responding to roll call. Alderman Tures, Bell and Davis
were absent.
On motion by Alderman Wexler and second by Behrel the Council appointed Alderman
McKay Mayor pro tem.
Attorney Eley reported about the Orchard Place Area septic tanks regarding
information he had on sewer construction. Attorney Bradley, the Attorney for the
Orchard Place Sanitary District, is to send in a letter as to when the sewer will be
installed.
The question of paved streets in Orchard Place Area was referred to Street Com-
mittee.
® APPROVE ADDITION TO CITY PLAN. On motion by Alderman Dunlap and second by Prickett the
2 Council approved the addition of the land south of Touhy to Higgins Road on City Plan
and Street layout.
'1 REZONING HOWARD AND LEE STHh T. Alderman Behrel reported he had attended the County
Zoning hearing for light industrial on the Northwest corner of Howard and Lee Streets.
There was a petition of objectors about the rezoning in residential area. On motion by
Alderman Behrel and second by Neff the City Clerk was instructed to write a letter of
Councils objection to the rezoning.
AWARD BID ON CULVERT UNDER CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN RAILWAY. The motion was made by
Alderman Wexler and seconded by Wolf to award the bid to construct culvert under the
Chicago and Northwestern Railway to Cassidy Construction Company for 02,925.00, to
notify Cassidy Construction Company to get a performance bond which the City will pay
the premium and to get approval.from Weller Creek Sanitary District, State Highway and
Chicago and Northwestern Railway. A letter from Robert Himel was read by Alderman
Dunlap regarding danger of flooding his property. This letter was referred to Sewer
Committee. Mr. Lauritzen spoke regarding danger of flooding River -Street. The Mayor
pro tem put the question and the Clerk called theroll: Ayes: Alderman Nelsen, McKay,
Schubert, Dunlap, Wolf, Wexler, Martin, Behrel, Prickett and Tistle. Alderman Neff
abstained from voting due to attorney interest on property that may be damaged by
flooding. The Mayor pro tem declared the motion carried.
On motion by Alderman Martin and second by Neff the Council approved to have a
public meeting with the Plan Commission, School Board and :Park Board on May 28, 1956,
regarding the City Plan.

On motion by Alderman Nelsen and second by Tistle the Council approved that the
changes in "Intensity Use of Lot" Ordinance be referred to Zoning Board and request
that Board to report back by June 15, 1956.
ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman Dunlap and seconded by Martin to adjourn.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation.
