I earnestly urge the Council to declare a vacancy in the Sixth Ward as soon as possible and to expedite steps to fill that vacancy so the residents of the Ward may have full representation. I suggest that the steps necessary to fill the vacancy be taken quickly so that a special election in the Ward can be held in conjunction with the first general referendum. I am sincerely sorry to relinquish my post as alderman f or I have enjoyed associating with you and working with you on the many problems that have confronted us. I feel confident that you as City Officials will continue in the future to maintain the high standards of government that we strived for together in the past, and I want to wish all of you success and good luck. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer with Alder- man Schubert, Hansen, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, Behrel, Prickett, Auck, Blume, McKay and Davis responding to roll call. Alderman Harm was absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The motion was made by Alderman Auck and seconded by Hansen to approve the minutes of April 18, 1955. The motion was voted upon by acclamation and the Mayor declared the motion carried. OFFICIAL REPORTS. The Clerk submitted the report of Building Commissioner Rieck for April. APPROVE EDGEBROOK PLAT. Alderman Prickett reported the Edgebrook Plat had been referred to the Municipal Development Committee and the Committee recommended approval of plat. The motion was made by Alderman Prickett and seconded by Behrel to approve the plat and the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute same after a deposit or. performance bond is placed in escrow. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes: Alderman Hansen, Schubert, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, Behrel, Prickett, Auck, Blume, McKay and Davis. Nays: None. The Mayor declared the motion carried. ALDERMAN BEHRE L ON COUNTY ZONING. Alderman Behrel reported on three County Zoning hearings. Alderman Behrel recommended that the Council should object to a rezoning from Farming to Business for stores and extension of a traler park on Scott Street south of Central Avenue. On motion by Alderman Behrel and seconded by Schubert the Council approved that the Clerk write a letter protesting this rezoning. Alderman Auck, Chairman of the Police Committee, said he wished to thank the Police Department for their fine cooperation during his term of office. Alderman Blume, Chairman of the Sewer Committee, reported his Committee had met with the new and old aldermen to inform them of what had been done to date in regard the flood relief sewer. 239 240 5-2-55 APPROVAL OF BILLS. Total $6,802.03. The Clerk read for first reading the following ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 212.8 OF CHAPTER 7 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES OF 1928 AS AMENDED RELATING TO SEWERS AND SEPTIC TANKS. The Mayor ordered the ordinance placed on file for second reading. ' The Mayor informed the retiring Aldermen that there being no more business, if they desired to make comments could do so at this time. After several of the Aldgr- men talked the Mayor thanked them for their cooperation and service the past four years. ADJOURN SINE DIE. The motion was made by Alderman Auck and seconded by Schallawitz to adjourn sine die. The motion was voted upon by acclamation and the Mayor declared the motion carried. INDUCTION CEREMONIES. The Mayor instructed the new Aldermen to take their chairs and then presented the Rev. Arthur D. McKay who gave the invocation. Police Magistrate A. L. Sengstock then installed the newly elected Aldermen. Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer made a short address. All the new Aldermen then made addresses. COUNCIL RECONVENES. Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer called the meeting to order and the Clerk called the roll with Alderman Schubert, Dunlap, Tures, Wolf, Neff, Wexler, Martin, Behrel, Nelsen, McKay, Davis, Tistle and Prickett responding to roll call. The Clerk informed the audience that it was his honor to call the roll with the first elected lady City Official included. HOFFMAN PARKWAY TO BE LEASED TO PARK DISTRICT. On motion by Alderman. Wexler and seconded by Neff, the Council approved to lease Hoffman Parkway to the Des Plaines Park District. ADJOURNMENT.
