MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL, DES PLAINES,
ILLINOIS, JUNE 14, 1954 AT 8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer who presided
with Aldermen Hansen, Schubert, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, Jacobs, Behrel, Auck, Prickett,
Dahl, Blume, Davis and McKay responding to roll call. Alderman Harm was absent due to
death of a brother.
FIRST READING GARBAGE COLLECTION ORDINANCE. The Clerk read for first reading the follow-
ing ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE
IMPOSITION OF FEES AND CHARGES
FOR THE COLLECTION AND REMOVAL
OF RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE AND RUBBISH.
The Mayor ordered the ordinance placed on file for second reading.
The Mayor then informed the Council that the public would be allowed to speak for
and against rerouting Algonquin Road to Oakton Street. After talks and discussion, the
motion was made by Alderman Jacobs and seconded by Dahl to table the rerouting. The
Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following result: Ayes:
Alderman Hansen, Schubert, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, Jacobs, Behrel, Auck, Prickett,
Dahl, Blume, Davis and McKay. Nays: None. The Mayor thereupon declared the motion
carried.
Q Alderman Davis reported he had a plat from Mr. Cornell requesting an annexation.
The Mayor referred the plat to the .Plan Commission.
ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman Jacobs and seconded by Auck to adjourn.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Mayor declared the motion carried.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL, DES PLAINES,
ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL
CHAMBERS, MONDAY, JUNE 21,1954,
AT 8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER. The meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, due to absence of
the Mayor, with Alderman Hansen, Schubert, Wolf, Tures, Schallawitz, Jacobs, Behrel,
Harm, Auck, Prickett, Dahl, Davis and McKay responding to roll call. The Clerk
informed the Council that the Mayor was out of town on vacation, therefore a Mayor
pro tem should be appointed. On motion by Alderman Wolf and sdconded by Tures.
Alderman Schubert was appointed Mayor pro tem.
OFFICIAL REPORTS. The Clerk submitted the report of Treasurer Barrett for May.
Engineer Fletcher reported he had received a plat from Alvord, Burdick and Howson
regarding the sewer survey and that they would have a complete report in a few weeks.
Attorney Howard reported on Sterling Oil Company License suit. The Oil Company
thought the license fee was too high so would appeal the case. On motion by Alderman
Dahl and seconded by Schallawitz the license fee was referred to the License Committee
and the Attorney given authority to proceed with the suit.
On motion by Alderman Dahl and seconded by Auck the Municipal Development
Committee is to investigate the rezoning at Oakton and Higgins and protest the rezoning,
if necessary. Alderman Dahl also reported of two County rezoning hearings in City Hall
on July 2, 6:00 P.M.
Alderman Wolf reported he was checking on garbage trucks and the Clerk informed
the Council he had received one sealed bidl After discussion the bid was returned to
the representative and on motion by Alderman Tures and seconded by Prickett the
Committee is to draw up plans and specifications for the garbage trucks.
Alderman Prickett reported that the next meeting of the Northwest Suburban
Planning Board.11 be in the City Hall, Des Plaines, June 24, 1954, at 8:00 P.M.
