10/19/19531.02 10-7-53 PETITION FOR ANNEXATION ON OAKTON STREET. The Mayor referred the petition to the Municipal Development Committee.. On motion by Alderman Jacobs and seconded by Dahl the placing of a sign on Miner -Lee traffic light was referred to Traffic Commission. The Clerk was instructed to inquire of Traffic Conhmission regarding the parking on Thacker and Second Avenue which they had tabled. On request of Alderman Auck the Mayor appointed Alderman McKay, Behrel and Schallawitz as a Committee to investigate and recomi{iend an ordinance for employee's sick leave. THE FOLLOWING THREE ORDINANCES HAD FIRST READING: AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT PARKING ON THE EASTERLY SIDE OF PARTS OF TRE STREET AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT PARKING ON EITHER SIDE OF THACKER STREET FROM TFF STREET TO PEARSON STREET IN THE CITY OF DES PLAINES,ILLINOIS AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR STOP SIGNS AT PEARSON AND THACKER STREETS The Mayor ordered the ordinances placed on file for second reading. ADJOURNMENT. The motion was made by Alderman Wolf and seconded by Hansen to adjourn. Henrich City C 'erk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, MONDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1953, AT 8:00 P. M. CALL TO ORDER. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kenneth G. Meyer who presided with Alderman Hansen, Schubert, Tures, Schallawitz, Behrel, Harm, Auck, Prickett, Dahl, Blume, Davis and'McKay responding to roll call. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The motion was made by Alderman Hansen and seconded by Prickett to approve the minutes of October 7, 1953. Two corrections were requested and_with corrections made the motion was approved by acclamation. OFFICIAL REPORTS. The Clerk submitted the report of City Treasurer for September and the Clerk's nine month report of receipts and disbursements. Alderman Wolf and Jacobs made their appearance at this time. Engineer Fletcher reportthe widening of Prairie Avenue at First Avenue at a cost of ed $900.00 was referred to the Stredt and Finance Committees. Mr. Hayden's request for water was referred to the Water Committee. Alderman Dahl reported•on two County Zoning notices to be held October 30, 1953. On motion by Alderman Davis and seconded by Blume, the Clerk was instructed to write a letter to the County Zoning Board objecting to rezoning in Elk Grove Township and a copy to be sent to the Mount Prospect Village Board. 10-19-1953 OFFICIAL REPORTS. Alderman Dahl reported on Oakton Gardens 33 foot easement ordinance which he referred to City Attorney and'Engineer. 103 Alderman Dahl reported on the Lee Street alley that the proposal of Plan Commission be concurred in with immediate action to be taken in the portion referred to in the second paragraph of the Plan Commission letter. On motion by ;Adlerman Dahl and seconded by Auck, the report was concurred in. resolution: APPROVAL OF BILLS. The Mayor ruled the motion was out of order and informed the Council then could vote to sustain his ruling. The Mayor referred the request to the Plan Commission and Municipal'Development Committee. The Clerk informed the Council that the Chamber of Commerce would expend up to $200.00 for Garden Club plants next year. Alderman Dahl informed the Council he had investigated regarding the person who obtained the Liquor Store license and would withdraw his motion to reconsider. Alderman Jacobs withdrew his eaoond to the motion. On request of Alderman Auck the Mayor referred the question of mosquito spraying to the Sanitation Committee. ADJOURNMENT. ' Alderman Wolf reported the City building in w hich Jordan Manufacturing Company is located was painted and repaired by City employees on their own time with a saving of about $400.00. Alderman McKay made the following report: October 30, 1953 Mayor and City Council: With reference to discussion at meeting of the Committee of the Whole on October 22nd, concerning proposal that the City of Des Plaines arrange for a bond issue to finance the purchase of equipment for fire protection, street cleaning, and garbage and rubbish removal, etc. Your Committee on Sanitation recommends that there be included in the total amount of the financing the stun of $35,000.00 to cover the purchase of three modern packer -type garbage -rubbish vehicles.
