RE: Street Widening and
Improvement Program
Following are the initial stages of the recommendations of the Plan Commission
0-4
• on street -widening and improvement program, listed in the order of their
importance we believe:
1
THACKER - from Second to River Road
GRACELAND - from Thacker to Oakwood and
FIRST AVENUE - from Oakwood to Walnut
PARK PLACE - from Lee to Pearson
PRAIRIE - from Second to First Avenue
GRACELAND - from Miner to Rand Road
MINER - from Graceland to the *Northwestern
freight station siding
*It is our suggestion to first'prevail upon Northwestern to remove their freight
car sidings and locate them in their coach -yard area thereby eliminating unsight-
liness. The removal of these tracks would permit widening Miner Street to the
southwest permitting the retention of four-way traffic and still allow parallel
parking adjacent to the commercial property on the northeast side of the street.
Along with this street widening program, it is suggested that sidewalks and
curbings be established from Graceland to the above-mentioned Northwestern
freight station siding; also, space vacated by the removal of siding tracks could
be planted with shade trees and lawns to greet visitors to Des Plaines.
