07/07/1975328 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CIVIC CENTER, MONDAY, July 7, 1975 CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Des Plaines was called to order by Mayor Herbert H. Behrel at 8:07 P.M. ROLL CALL: Roll Call indicated the following aldermen present: Koplos, Szabo, Sullivan, Olen, Bolek, Leer, Brannigan, Kisslinger, Birchfield, Erbach, Kraves, Sarlo, Seitz, Abrams, Ward. Absent was Alderman Meyer Also present were: City Comptroller Blietz, Police Chief Hintz, Fire Chief Corey, Building Commissioner Baldaccini, City Engineer Bowen, Commissioner of Public Works Schwab, Environmental Control Officer Lindahl, Museum Director Welch, and City Attorney Hug. PRAYER AND PLEDGE MINUTES: The meeting opened with prayer by Rev. Garry Scheuer, pastor of First Congregational Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Moved by Sarlo, seconded by Birchfield, to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held June 16, 1975, as published. Motion declared carried. ENVIRONMENTAL Environmental Patches were presented by the Environmental PATCHES Commission, represented by Rev. Garry Scheuer, to members of the Jr. Women's Club for their contributions to the City's Environmental Program. The Jr. Women's Club is the first official recipients of the Environmental Patch Award. Alderman Olen made a minority report requesting that a soil test be taken prior to payment as there was no footing inspection nor an inspection made by the Engineering Department in connection with need for additional fill. Moved by Erbach, seconded by Sarlo, to amend the motion to include that the present City Hall Building be retained for public use for the future. Motion to amend declared lost. City of Chicago Water Contract as approved on May 28, 1975 by the City of Chicago was referred to Water and Sewer Committee. The petition requesting certain signs on Van Buren between White Street and Des Plaines Avenue was referred to Streets and Traffic Committee and Traffic Commission. Referred to City Engineer was Alderman Bolek's request to determine if the City of Des Plaines boundaries are contiguous to the boundaries of the City of Chicago and if so, to request the City of Chicago to add the City of Des Plaines to the list of contiguous Cities to allow for changes in fares charged by taxicabs from 0"Hare Airport.
