CHAMBERS , CITY HALL MONDAY, January 7, 1974 CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Des Plaines was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Mayor Herbert H. Behrel ROLL CALL: Roll Call indicated the. .fo11owinga1dermen present: Koplos, Szabo, Kehe, Olen, Chase, Kisslinger, Hinde.,. Birchfield, Erbach, Swanson, Sarlo, Meyer, Seitz, Abrams, Ward. Congregational Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. MINUTES: Moved by Kehe, seconded. by Swanson, to approve the_ Minutes of the regular meeting held December 17, 1973, as published. Correction: Page six,. Paragraph. Resolution R-24-73, changing $1,090,00 to $1,090,000. Following correction, motion declared carried. YOUTH Fire Chief Corey presented essay awards to Youth APPRECIATION: Appreciation. Week participants as follows: 1st prize - Doug Merkel. Runner up prizes - Keith Haug, Jim Tortelli, and Brian Olfield REPDRTS OF The following monthly reports for December were ordered CITY OFFICIALS:placed on file: Department -of -Planning -and Zoning; Health Department; Building Department;.En.gineering Department; Public Works Department;.Environmental. Also the Annual Report of the Building Commissioner CITY TREAS. C1 y Treasurer submitted report of funds in City Treasury. CITY City Comptroller Blietz reported that rates for Blue Cross - COMPTROLLER Blue Shield will be maintained at:.the same level with an increase in Major_ Medical from 1.04 to 1.6.6 and further that due to the City's performance -$41,453 will be refunded by Blue Cross and $4,190 from Blue Shield. coeey FIRE CHIEF Fire Chief H reported on fire on Orchard Street, praising the work of the firemen in -rescuing occupant, He introduced. Deputy Fire.Chie.f..Clark who addressed the City Council thanking the Mayor and City Council for the many opportunities received by him during his service in the fire department, pledging 100% until the day he retires. CITY ENG. Assistant City Engineer rep.orted..thatSewer Back Up Valves are now in place_and the contractor -is working at Mt. Prospect Rd. and Wisconsin Drive. LEGAL Corporation Counsel DiLeonardi reported_. that the Circuit BODCHENHAUER Court found in favor of Julius Cohen and against the City Property in the Cohen zoning case on the property commonly known as the Boeckenhauer.property west of Alfini. Drive between Algonquin and Thacker. The relief granted by the court was for a row of three -flat buildings, 43 in number, adjacent to the railroad tracks at the western perimeter of the property and two lots for commercial on Algonquin Road next to existing commercial to the east limited to a medical clinic or a small office building usage. Matter of appeal was referred to City Code and Judiciary Committee LEGAL MSD 1/7/74 110 Page two Corporation Counsel DiLeonardi..reported that.the Illinois Appellate Court on.January 2,..19.74, denied the petition of the Metropolitan .S.anitary- District for rehearing for. a Certificate of Importance: The District now has the right to ask the Supreme Court directly to review the Appellate Court. CITY City Attorney-Bouril.reported:th.at7additional law books II ATTORNEY have been received. .Further reported that Morgan Builders will comply with the'City.'s request and the area.at Oakton.and-Lee Streetswill.be cleaned up soon. Further reported.thatthe decision. of.theCivil Service Commission on the Baras.otti_.clas.e should be received next week. Prospect and the City of Des Plaines on the above annexations, as recited in Ordinances A-7-73 and A-8-73.
