MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, HELD IN
THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL
FRIDAY, JANUARY 7, 1972
The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Des
Plaines was called to order by Mayor Herbert H. Behrel at
7:53 P.M.
Roll Call indicated the following aldermen present:
Koplos, Kehe, Chase, Kisslinger, Erbach, Swanson, Thomas,
Seitz, Abrams, Michaels. Absent were Szabo, Sherwood, Bolek,
O'Brien, Czubakowski, Bonaguidi. There being a quorum present
the meeting was in order. Also present were City Comptroller
Blietz, and City Attorney DiLeonardi.
Mayor Behrel reviewed the past history of the formation of
Des Plaines Mass Transit District and granted permission to
Mr. John Hanck of United Motor Coach Co. to address the
Council regarding the financial status of said company.
Mr. Hanck recommended to City Council that the City consider
the "eventual taking over of the United Motor Coach Co."
and during the interium period will be willing to
appropriate certain funds to the Des Plaines Mass Transit
District for partially defray the costs of operating a
bus service in the City of Des Plaines. Attorney Kenneth
Meyer explained to City Council the tax benefits to be
derived wherein the bus company is operated by the Mass
Transit District. Following considerable discussion, it'
was moved by Koplos, seconded by Abrams, to appropriate
$20,000 Motor Fuel Tax Funds to the Des Plaines Mass
Transit District for distribution to United Motor Coach
Company at a rate of $1,385 per month. and to authorize
the City Attorney to prepare the necessary resolutions and
ordinances. Upon roll call, the vote was
AYES: - 12 - Koplos, Kehe, Chase, O'Brien, Kisslinger,
Erbach, Swanson, Thomas, Seitz, Abrams,
Michaels, Mayor
NAYS: 0 - None
ABSENT: 5 - Szabo, Sherwood, Bolek, Czubakowski, Bonaguidi.
Motion declared Carried.
Moved by Seitz, seconded by Swanson, to authorize the officers
of Des Plaines Mass Transit District to conduct a feasibility
study into the activities of United Motor Coach Company
with a view of acquiring holdings of said company by
Des Plaines Mass Transit District or a combined transit
district of those municipalities presently served by United
Motor Coach Company. Motion declared Carried.
