ADOPT A- -63 ORD 400 OAHTON ST. The Clerk read for the second reading
the above ordinance. The motion was made by Alderman Luellen and seconded by
Leer to adopt the ordinance. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the
roll with the following results: Ayes: Alderman Rateike, Szabo, Wright,Prickstt,

RESOLUTION EASEMENT AGREEMENT COMMONWEALTH EDISON CO.: The Clerk presented the
above resolution. On motion by Alderman Figard and seconded by Luellen, the
Council approved the resolution.
The Mayor appointed Alderman Prickett and himself to serve on the Special
Aeronautic Committee with Alderman Swanson as Chairman.
The Mayor referred regarding stop, signs at White and Riverview Avenues to the
Traffic Commission.

1964 AT 8:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Herbert H. Behrel, with
Alderman Swanson, French, Martin, Bonaguidi,`Rateike, Prickett, Wright, Shillington
and Figard responding to roll call.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The motion was made by Alderman Prickett and seconded by
Wright to approve the minutes of December 16, 1963. The motion was approved
by acclamation.
OFFICIAL REPORTS: The Clerk submitted the annual report of Health Officer Jean
Branding.
There was a discussion'on one-way streets and the Clerk read a letter from Mr.
Franzen of the Les -Plaines Lumber and Coal Company opposing the'oneway streets.
A public hearing on one-way streets will be held on January 30th.

COMPLAINT AT LAW ANN MARIE UNF'RR for injury near parking lot on Graceland Ave. rear
of Maria Schaeffer Music Store. It was referred to the Judiciary Committee and
Engineer Fletcher to investigate the property and report to that Committee.
A report on County Zoning by Attorney Di Leonardi was read and on motion by Alder-
man Prickett and seconded by French an objection should be filed on the rezoning
of 504 acres located at 2000 feet west of.the City Limits at Highway 83, North of
Algonquin Road.
There will be a meeting of the Municipal Development Committee January 13th at
7:30 P.M.

AWARD BID ON STREET DEPARTMENT TRUCK: The motion was made by Alderman French and
seconded by Swanson to award the bid on Street Department truck to the International
Harvester Company for $6,977.51 and other bidders checks returned. The Mayor put
the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: Alder-
man Rateike, Wright, Prickett, Shillington, Figard, French, Swanson, Martin and
Bonaguidi. Nays: None. T he Mayor declared, the motion carried.
TRAFFIC QONIROL ON LLi ST. BETWN TOM Z ORTN TO CONFLUENCE WITH MANNHEIM RD.:
Alderman French made the following report: "Your Committee on Streets and Traffic
has investigated the above and has found jurisdiction previously rested with
Cook County; City of Des Plaines now has jurisdictid'n.
"We your Committee on Streets and Traffic therefore recommend that necessary
ordinance be drawn to reduce speed limit for the entire length of.the street
from Touhy to Mannheim to 35 M.P.H. and ,that this limit and the possibility
of making the Ise -Howard intersection a four way stop be studied by the Traffic
Commission." On motion by Alderman French and seconded by Rateike the Council
approved the report.
RESTRICTION OF .TRUCK TRAFFIC IN RESIDENTIAL AREA WEST OF THIRD AVE. AND NORTH
OF RAND ROAD: Alderman French made the' following report: "Your Committee on
Streets and Traffic has investigated the above and has found the civic association
in the area has submitted a plan for traffic which should be studied and acted
upon before completion of the industrial property to the east `of Third Ave.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AT MANNHEIM "S" CURVE: Alderman French made the following re-
port: "Your Committee on Streets and Traffic has investigated the above and has
found jurisdiction of this area rests with State of Illinois Highway Department
accident record requires further study and action on signing and speed limita-
tion in the area.
'We your Committee o4 Streets and Traffic therefore recommend that the Mayor
request a conference with the officials of the State Highway Department on
this subject and invite a representative of the Streets and Traffic Committee,
the Department'of Public Works, the City Engineer and either'or both Fifth Ward
Aldermen to the meeting to discuss this traffic problem." On motion by Alderman
French and seconded by Wright the Council approved the report.
TRAFFIC CONTROL AT CEDAR AND JARVIS STREETS: Alderman French made the following
report: "Your Committee on Streets and Traffic has investigated the above and
has found 1) Traffic Commission recommends stop sign by 4-1 vote; recommendation
for three months' trial period. 2) Safety Council recommends stop sign but in-
tends to investigate further with school authorities. 3) One hundred seventy-
five petitioners request stop sign. 4) School authorities have adopted an
intensive campaign of safety education for this and other areas and recommend
painted crosswalks, sidewalk on the circular parkway, no stop sign because of
scarcity of traffic. 5) Police Department recommends no stop sign; finds 39
cars southbound and 27 northbound on Cedar (street recommended for sto0 on school
day during school hours. 28 westbound; 10 Eastbound.
"We, your Committee on Streets and Traffic, therefore recommend 1) That Cedar
traffic be stopped for Jarvis but that Traffic Commission and Safety Council con-
tinue study. 2) Markings for crosswalk and sidewalk improvement of the island
be done by Department of Public Works; trimming of hedge to improve view of
motorists should be continued." On motion by Alderman French and seconded by
Swanson the Council approved the report.
PURCHASE EQU/PMENT FOR WATER DEPARTMENT: The motion was made by Alderman Figard
and seconded by Shillington to purchase a liquid level telemeter transmitter for
$607.00. The Mayor put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the follow-
ing results: Ayes: Alderman Rateike, Wright, Prickett, Shillington, Figard,
French, Swanson, Martin and Bonaguidi. Nays: None. The Mayor declared the motion
carried.
