APPROVE $1,785.00 EXPENDITURE FOR REHABILITATION WORK AT WATER PLANT. Alder- man Flauter reported the following: "Your Committee on Water has investigated the above and has found the Walker Process Equipment Company has recommend- ed complete repair of the unit, dismantling, repair of burner, refractory liner, booster, and addition of a.booster pump at a cost of $1,500.00. A replacement tube bundle at $145.00 is also required. Services of a man to assist in installation at $140.00 is also required. We, your Committee on Water, therefore recommend the Superintendent of Public Works be authorized to proceed with the repairs in the approximate amount of $1,785.00, and I so move." FRANCHISE: Alderman Prickett made the follow- ing report: "We, your Committee on Finsue recommend as follows: This is a progress report on an investigation requested of the Finance Committeeto determine the franchise position of the Illinois Bell Telephone Company. As you know, the Illinois Bell Telephone Company is currently operating without a franchise on a 90 day cancellation basis by either party. Until recently, Illinois Bell's only connection with the city of Des Plaines was the passage of toll lines within the city boundaries. Recently, however, station services were provided within the terminus of the city and this has been the basis of renewing negotiations. We have been in contact with Mr. B. Kaucher, local manager of Arlington Heights office, under whose jurisdiction these services with- in the city fall. He is pursuing this matter with their legal department. The Finance Committee wil-1 report fromtime to time on the progress, of the matter."
