V.F.W. FESTIVAL: The Mayor read a letter from the Veterans of Foreign Wars
regarding a festival September 1st to 4th at the northeast corner of Lee and
Oakton Streets. The Mayor will reply to the letter.
PETITION FOR BUS SERVICE: Alderman Jackson presented a petition for bus,
service in the area bound by Oakton, Mt. Prospect Road, Elmhurst Road and
Miller Road. The Mayor referred same to the License and Inspection Committee.
TO ADVERTISE BIDS FOR PORTABLE ROT,fl R: , On motion by Alde4man Jackson and
seconded_by Tistle the Council approved to advertise bids for roller, Superintendent
Warnicke to draft specifications. Bids to be returned August 7th.
On motion by Alderman Bonaguidi and seconded by Jackson, a letter of protest
is to be sent to the County Zoning Board regarding rezoning area west of
Holy Family Hospital and north of Golf Road. The Mayor will investigate
and write the letter.

OFFICIAL REPORTS. The Deputy Clerk presented the July report from the Building

City Engineer Fletcher report on Thacker Street sewer would extend from Lee
Street to Wolf Road and presented resolution for 1200,000., also, testing of
Well 6 was about ready.
Police Chief Kennicott reported on speed signs on Dempster(Thacker) Street
east of Route 83.
Superintendent Wernicke reported power failure and plant trouble on Wednesday
August 2, 1961. .
APPROVE HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION. Alderman Bell read the following report:
Your Committee has investigated and found property consists of a tract of
land lying outside City of Des Plaines but within the mile and half jurisdictional
area. Subdivision requested is for, seven Iota fronting on a private drive
running southeast from Hawthorne Lane.to the Des Plaines River. Plan Commission
has approved the plans. We,therefore recommend approval of the plat as shown.
Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign the plat. On a motion by Alderman
Bell and second by Blume the Council concurred in report.
APPROVE GOLF TERRACE SUBDIVISION UNIT #2. .Alderman Bell made the following report:
Your committee has investigated and found Plan Commission has approved plat.
Plat.corisists of 71 lots zoned for single family residential use. Dedication
of land for park purposes and funds for school board were received at the original
presentation of this property in April of 1960. Plat meeting all requirements
of the City of Des Plaines. We recommend approval of the plat as shown, Mayor
and City Clerk be authorizedto sign the plat, upon receipt of bonds to cover
the necessary improvements. On a motion by Alderman Bell and second by Blume
the Council concurred in report.
DELAY ALLEY VACATION OF CENTRAL SCHOOL..'::fin a motion by Alderman Bell and second
by Tures to concur in report and waive compensation for vacation. On a motion
by Alderman Jackson and second by Tistle to defer decision pending negioations
of opening Prospect Avenue. Alderman Bell withdrew his motion and Alderman Tures
his second for original motion. The Council voted by acclamation.

the following report: 'Your committee.has investigated and found request is for
permission to erect a building in property now zoned industrial. Building will
serve as a warehouse -for uniforms, work clothes and other soft goods. We
recommend approval of.the building as requested. Building Department be
instructed to issue the necessary building permit. On.a motion by Alderman
.Bell and second by Blume the Council concurred in report.

Your committee has investigated and found .request is for permission to erect
a building on property.now zoned industrial. Building will house office,
manufacturing facilities and warehouse for the Max Factor Company. We

APPROVE REZONING INTERSTATE STEEL COMPANY UPON.ANNEXATION. Alderman Bell read the
following report: Your committee has investigated. and found building is currently
being used.as offices, warehouse and fabricating facilities for Interstate Steel
Company. Building is surrounded on three sides by City of Des plaines and is
currently obtaining water from the City. Property is now zoned Industrial in
the County, reason for requesting annexation is to obtain city water at the
resident rates. We recommend property be rezoned to M-2 upon annexation. City
Attorney be authorized to draw the necessary ordinances. On a motion by Alderman
Bell and second by Blume the Council concurred in report.
APPROVE ANNEXATION INTERSTATE STEEL COMPANY. Alderman Bell made the following
report: We recommend property be annexed as requested. City Attorney be

Rateike made the following report: We your committee has investigated and
found Pure Fuel Oil is low Bidder at .039 below tank wagon price at time of
delivery and recommend that Pure Oil be awarded contract to June 30, 1962. On a
motion by Alderman Rateike and second by Blume to award bid to Pure Fuel Oil
Company for .039 below tank wagon price. The Mayor put the question and the
Deputy Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes; Alderman

STOP SIGN AT BEAU DRIVE AND DEMPSTER STREET. Alderman Jackson made the following
report: Your committee has investigated and found: that Beau Drive is residential
street breaching the N side of Dempster one block E of Elmhurst Road, that traffic
clearing the Dempster—Elmhurst Road intersection should be kept moving. We
recommend that the City Attorney be directed to draw an ordinance to stop Beau
Drive traffic at Thacker Street and that Superintendent of Public Works erect an
appropriate sign NW corner of the above intersection. On a motion by Alderman
Jackson and second by Tistle the Council concurred in report.
STOP SIGN AT MARSHALL DRIVE AND KATHLEEN DRIVE AT DEMPSTER STREET. Alderman
Jackson read the following report: your committee has investigated and found
that the above stretch of Marshal dr and Marshal Street (as it is known N. of
Dempster) is being used as a short cut for through traffic, thst such a condition
is dangerous for the residential area that surrounds this road. We recommend that
an ordinance be drawn up by the City Attorney allowing us to stop N & S bound
Marshal traffic at Dempster and at Kathlenn Dr. 3 blocks N. of Dempster. On a
motion by Alderman Jackson and second by Tistle the Council concurred in report.
SPEED LIMIT ALLEY BETWEEN GRACELAND AND IEE. STREETS. Alderman Jackson made the
following report: Your committee has investigated and found that the area on the
Lee side of the alley is developed commer.ically, that the area on-the..Graceland
side of the alley is developed residentially that the alley frequently travels at
a speed that constitutes an unreasonable hazard to children in the area. We
recommend that the City Attorney be instructed to draw an ordinance restricting
traffic in the alley running from Oakwood to Prairie and bounded by Graceland and
Lee Streets to 10 MPH and that the Superintendent of Public Works erect the
necessary signs. On a motion by Jackson and second by Tures the Council concurred
in report.

Bonaguidi the Council concurred advertising bids for sewer rodding machine not
to exceed $5,000. specifications to'be drawn. by Engineer and Superintendent,
bids returnable August 21, 1961.
AWARD BID TRIATING NORTH SCHOOL PARKING LOT. The motion was made by Alderman
Rateike and second by Bell to resurface withasphalt chip coating at the bid
of $2,545.00 from Arrow Road Construction. The Mayor put the question and the
